Tony...I threw up a few threads at some other forums I belong to. They have a decidedly more international flavor. I'm just sorry that its the only thing I could do. A few suggestions from other friends...notify FML, FCA, Ferrari Owners Club Canada, and Mike Sheehan?

We've got your back as best we can.

Holy cow man, I am SO SORRY. I am just about to close on a house, and you have furthered my mental cause to make my garage a freaking fortress before I even get there...not that it will help with the pros, but at least it will make it harder for anyone to steal mine.

When I was living in Berkshire in England, a guy down the block had a Ferrari 355 GTB for a short while. He kept it in a locked garage and inside the car was driven through two metal posts cemented into the ground and a metal bar was swung down behind it and locked into place:

I've never seen anything like it before or since, so I don't know if it was his own creation. In any case, it wouldn't make a car impossible to steal but it would sure make it a heck of a lot harder (and a lot noisier)... particularly if the thieves were interested in keeping the car in one piece while getting it out.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    PS:
I don't think I'm getting any awards for artwork any time soon.

That's a good idea. Having posts pop up out of the floor right behind the car would be a good idea too.

I think the Ferrari "gate lock" as sold on the aftermarket is of minimal value. It may have some "visual deterrent"...but can be ripped out with a small pry bar in a few seconds. Basically you pry out the entire lock and gate, since only two Phillips head screws secure it to the mounting base.

Cool idea, but today, with easy access to battery operated cut off wheels and cutting tools, you could cut the lock or the pole a quick fashion. Still a good deterent...I would just hate to forget to remove the pole before I backed out! ;)

Very sad to hear!!! I could not and would not know what you fill right now. Any how I would be looking at the garage repair Dude Asap!!!! If you leave the keys in the car he may have seen it and had an Idea, a bad idea. I can't see anybody stealing a ferrari car. I hope it pops up like the tommy HILL f355 challenge car did, we all thought that was a goner. I will pray it goes your way.

I had the same thing happen with 2 motorcycles being taken from the garage. In my case they put chains on the door and used a truck to rip the garage door off then took 2 bikes with drag motors... gone fast.
Id push the garage door repair people, they can rig a door, or clone the openers in about 2 minutes with new programming. was the opener in the car the last time you drove it or did you not notice since the door was broken? hope you find out what happened.

    Andrew,

If you don't go with a "sunken shank" lock, that is all useless.

If you don't, I can pop it with a set of bolt cutters in one second. Oh and sunken shank locks are not easy to get for obvious reasons.

I seriously considered it myself, but I REALLY don't want that kind of publicity with my face and all. The media has a way of spinning things and this would fall under the dumbass category and they'd put a humorous twist to the story...The "Poor Little Rich Guy" thing would be attached to my name and face and I'd get that "hey I saw you on the news that sucks" thing as well. Possibility of silly reward queries and prank calls. All the stuff that would piss me off.

IF the car is still in the city (and I doubt it is) the car would surely go underground with media exposure. This guy may still be "stoopud" enough to be driving it. My thoughts are the car is already on it's way out of the country concealed in which case, media wouldn't be of any help anyway.

I'm definitely out on that one.

    Wow. My condolences.

Let this be a lesson to all of us. I bought "The Club" for each of my Ferraris years ago and used the devices when I would leave the state. I've been very lazy in their use, and I am also guilty of leaving the keys in the car in my garage.

I left my truck running for 45 minutes in Lowe's parking lot last night. Yahoo said it was -3 degrees here this morning. Felt more like +15 to me.
