woo TRScotty, man you made a huge flip flop there. :) hopefully I've been fair and balanced about this the entire time. I know Tony is a nice guy because I've met him. Tony is innocent of insurance fraud until proven guilty and not even sure why we are talking about that because that is out of our hands. If "probable cause" has any video of when the car was dropped, then his responsibility to get it to DPD and insurance. We know for a fact something illegal happened and that's why it should be pursued. Only other conclusion I've made is I hope Tony doesn't buy any more Ferraris because I don't want MY rates going up anymore. :D I'm not into that entire socialist thing where the strong pay for the weak or in this case responsible for the irresponsible.

    I don't think that I've flip-flopped.
I have only raised questions that I feel to be pertinent to the situation.

I don't know Tony, nor am I directly accusing him of any wrongdoing.

My assertion that there are other issues at play here was meant to be digested for consideration, not evidence to obtain a conviction.

    There are inconsistencies, no?

Ok- this whole thing is just way too fishy and makes no sense whatsoever. I mean seriously, why would someone steal a lowly 348 when there are plenty of beautiful 355s around town? That alone makes me very suspicious.

In case you couldn’t tell, I’m completely joking…just had to lighten things up a bit and add even more controversy to this thread.

Years ago as I was backing my 308 into the garage I had 2 dirty '30 something' guys in an old beat up van drive sideways and park across the driveway. I am used to people stopping and asking questions, and I have always felt that sharing is part of the exotic car experience, but it was obvious that these 2 characters were up to no good.

I am usually armed, so I tucked my gun in the back of my pants and got out of the car. They were already out of the van and one was coming straight for me, while other was trying to go around. I told them to stop three times. They kept getting closer, stating that they wanted to 'check out' what I had.

After three attempts at stopping the advance, I drew on them, and took aim. That didn't stop them, just slowed them down. I stated that if we were going to have a problem, it was ME that was going to be walking away. Only then did they retreat and leave, never to be heard from again. I reported their plate to the cops, but nothing ever came of it. There is something to be said for being able to protect one's self.

btw..... Generally Ferrari's are not usually stolen, as there isn't usually anything to do with them. As far as smuggling a 348 out of the country goes, I doubt it's worth the expense and effort. Thieves usually go for pickups, Hondas, Toyotas, etc. If this happened the way it was stated (given the history), it is either incredible bad luck, someone really doesn't like Tony or there is something more nefarious afoot.

I'll withold judgement till all the facts are in if ever, but I do hope Tony continues to buy 348's. With his luck lately it would only be a year or two until I had the only 348 Spider left in the US.

Great story. Could have ended poorly if it weren't for you pulling on them. Good for you

What a great thread. Haven't got time to read it all, but I think I get the idea.

We are all entitled to an opinion. Mine is that I don't believe 348Tony's story. Too many holes. Too much circumstantial evidence. Maybe he is just trying out the story before he files a claim to see how likely it will fly. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen where he said he filed a claim.

If he hasn't filed a claim yet, I bet he will not. After he reads his own story and the responses to it he will see that it will not work. Maybe Tony messed up the car and is trying to figure out how to get insurance to pay for it.

Just my opinion. If I'm right I don't think you will read a post from Tony telling us how the insurance claim is going. Might not hear from him at all.

    Jack

btw - I read the post from Jerry who said it was his father's car and how much his Dad loved it. That really hurt. I have sold perfect cars and always wished they would end up being taken care of in the manner they were accustomed to.

Lots of problems with that, actually (my car was heavily vandalized in theft attempt right under the security camera)..

The owner doesn't have to share, it would require a Court Order.

A lot of systems overwrite the storage drive so if you don't grab it within a time period (say 24 hours) it's 'gone"......

    Jus' sayin'.

The last 24h were filled with our Ian Flemming-like brainfarts, assumptions, wild guesses, hypothetics, funny stories, simple swearing,...

I would like to know the rest of the 'real' story now! :S

Call Tony for an update? Someone?

And, O god, this thread is worthless without: PICS (of the blackish 348)

I am disappointed in FChat right now.

This thread started with a crime being committed and there being one of the more interesting stories to a largely respected member who has personally met quite a few on the board including the head of FChat.

Then it takes an interesting twist when another poster comes on here stating the the car is parked near his work.

Soon the poster is back and is heading to find the car. All is well and the story is getting REALLY good.

Soon, predictably, the self-appointed FChat police start to dig in and look for ways to prove the other poster is a liar, cheat, lawbreaker, committing a felony, etc.

After, predictably, the original poster doesn't return to FChat (a good idea) and the next 24 hours+ on this thread are spent with idiots posting worthless CRAP that have nothing to do with the original thread.

Now we are at a point where it is 99% certain that the original poster will not be back to comment here (smart move, since he is being accused of a felony and anything he says here could be used against him later). So we are left with a good story, a bunch of worthless $h!t after that and no closure to it.

If you guys could have kept your detective mouth shut for even ONE DAY we could have enjoyed this one.

    Nice work.

Having read some of the opinions directed at the DPD , I found their website to be quite intuitive . For those of you who are familiar with the DFW area, you can follow this link http://dallas.dfwmaps.com/crimenew/ and verify.
