Because the non supercharged Vette motor gets 430 HP -- way less than the 4.5 in the Italia V-8. If you supercharged this thing, you'd be pushing over 800 easy. By the way... it's 660 HP. You're rounding the wrong way.
Mitch is correct... they could produce a lot more HP if they wanted to, without turbo or supercharging it.
Please, don't forget you're in a Ferrari forum ;-) Here there is people like me who think the Ferrari 400 is undoubtely a masterpiece in the history of car design...
Mitch is NOT correct. He was comparing apples to oranges. Comparing the top of the line supercharged Vette motor to a normally aspirated V12 is not a fair comparison. True, they could get more than 660. They always can get more. Mitch was implying that the Vette motor should be compared straight across. If he was making are REAL claim, it would be with unblown to unblown... which I called out. Why don't we compare a 2000 HP funny car to it also?
I'm horrible at PShop but with a few mods and it's not a bad lookin 4X4.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm sure that Ferrari lost quite a few 612 sales to Bentley, as the CGT is AWD and the 612 is not. plus, once you're over 500 bhp it's hard to use all that power without AWD. so an AWD 4-seater Ferrari does make marketing and engineering sense. as to the styling, it does look better in gray than red, and presumably most will be ordered in black/blue/gray. but still, it's not pretty, exciting, or innovative. this is two big design duds from Ferrari, first the Cali (which I still think is an ugly car) and now this, which hasn't grown on me much throughout the day. The 458 has its flaws but is fundamentally a beautiful design. the Cali and FF are homely at best with a few nice details. sigh....
i said it in the other thread but im sure my 612 OTO just went up in price an enzo is for sure rolling in his grave...
If Enzo could have given his blessing to the 400, he certainly wouldn't roll over in his grave for this.
For me, the FF can not be compared withe the California. The California is a joke in design. The exhausts one over another like in a tuning car, the bending line on the side body, the non sense rear... Nothing to do with this breathtaking FF..
Guys it could be worse.... Anyway I like the above pic with the shortened front end with out the lift kit.
Don't forget Fiat. Ferrari is a brand to exploit. Can you think of a better way to convince the spouse that a Ferrari is afamily car? T his is the dumbing down of one more thing we all love. Ferrrari (Fiat) would brand diapers if they thought it would make money. Bill
This new FF is a large car. It must look quite a bit bigger in person than in the pictures. Look at the relative size of the Ferrari shield on the fender. I don't think that shield is smaller in size than the standard ones. The specifications I've seen say the length of the FF is 193.2 inches. Wow, that is a long car. A Mercedes E-Class sedan is 185.0 inches long. A Toyota 4Runner SUV is 189.9 inches long. A Ferrari 550 is 179.1 inches long. A Ferrari 360 is 176.3 inches long. A Ferrari 328 is 167.5 inches long. The new FF is 54.3 inches high. That is tall for a Ferrari. A Mercedes E-Class sedan is 54.0 inches tall. A Ferrari 550 is 50.3 inches tall. A Ferrari 360 is 47.2 inches tall. A Ferrari 328 is 44.4 inches tall. This new FF seems to be sized almost as large as the new cross-over SUV/sedans.
Let's be frank here fellas, there isn't anybody who can claim immunity to calling the 612 an ugly duck when it hit the net. I really think it's going to be a case of 599 where we seriously have to see it in person. If you gentleman recall the design contest Ferrari held a few years back, at least half of the finalists had shooting brake designs. The front end really has some character, in a good way. The grille is especially nostalgic, and the geometry of the bonnet is nicely progressive... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I see lots of similarity between the two, especially on the rear of the car (would be more obvious it the Cali had its roof up) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
for comparison, the 612 is 193 inches long and 52.9 inches tall (data from motor trend's website). so really, FF isn't that much bigger than the 612 (which is also big for a Ferrari)
