After viewing the reactions to the last car that Ferrari introduced, I wanted to express my opinion. I must say first that I have not seen the car - I am invited to a preview at FNA next week - but still I am very much disappointed with the style of this car.
The reality is that Ferrari has always been synonymous of one word: passion!
This passion was and it still is the result of the great history of the marque and the countless stories of drama, wins, losses, deaths, turnarounds, that were part of the company.
People bought Ferraris because of the history, the cars themselves, the outstanding
performance, sounds, etc. But if there was one thing that the great majority of the
Ferraris had in common is that they were beautiful. The relationship of Pininfarina and Ferrari
is unique in the history of the automotive world. Pininfarina had the unique ability to produce different styles, car after car, and they were for the most part beautiful.
Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but for Ferrari, we can say that the beauty of the cars is recognized by people who love cars, but also by people who do not care about cars.
They just look at the car and say wow! this is gorgeous. I had the chance of owning a substantial amount of Ferraris, and I still own quite a lot, and let me tell you, beauty means to me that when I leave the car, shut the door and walk away, I turn around to see that beautiful shape once more. To me it meant the anticipation while I was expecting the car to be delivered. Every single one of them was and still is a beauty, no matter who you ask.
I am so disappointed that Ferrari introduced this last car. Whether it is a hatchback, a shooting break, it is just not beautiful. Just see the reactions on this thread.
Maybe it can be justified by the need to have a sort of functional Ferrari, for a segment of
the market. But do not replace a 612 with this aberration.
Ferrari made a mistake with the California style, and now it made it worst with
this new car. I am very sorry to see this, and I am going to express this to Ferrari.
They need to understand that the moment they remove the beauty of the style, they
are killing what Ferrari always stood for

Yes the 330 and 365 where just stupid cars that there was no market for. What was Enzo thinking then?

Well ... they did not make a mistake with the California styling. And although I am not thrilled with the pictures of the FF I think I will wait until I see one in the flesh to judge. Unfortunately I have only owned one Ferrari, not a bunch, but whether you own a bunch, one, or none you can still feel the passion. The Cali does it for me and we will see about the FF when I see or drive one. I can not see the FF replacing a Bentley though.

I'm sorry but is this the 612 replacment? I'm a little slow this morning. lol. I thought this was a new model. As with all new cars today you really need to see it in person. Todays new car designs dont photograph well.

Undoubtedly Ferrari has gone the mainstream me-too luxury-class way. Too bad for us Tifosi. With this in perspective the car itself isn't too bad but Porsche was there first with the Panamera, so thumbs down for a company that is supposed to wow us.
So what will we do with the guys who will post in the FF section starting a thread with a title like: "Got one!"
Instead of the usual "Congrats" and "Drive it in good health" should we write; "What were you thinking?" or "Well you have no balls since your wife told you if you get a Ferrari don't bring me back a 458 cause we need it to go to our daughter soccer game at 5 and then to the grocery store!"

Also,I didn't see anything yet about it but does anybody knows what this car's gonna cost?

Yes. Everything has gone downhill since Enzo made that Lusso. How dare he make a luxury 2+2?

The panamera is a 4 door with a v-6 or v-8. This is a two door 650 HP V-12. They are quite different. Too bad for the tifosi? I don't think so. People WILL complain about anything. You guys call your selfs Tifosi and when Ferrari releases something (4WD V12 you fools!!) that has the potential to truly kill it's archenemy Porsche cars in performance what do you do?you all whine about it before you've driven it and ***** about it's styling before you've seen it because the release pics don't look like a poster you had on the wall as a kid. boo whoo. It's not a styling rehash of your favorite car when you were mid puberty. Wahhh tears. This styling is exactly what Ferrari needed. The type of reaction this thread is getting is the perfect reaction for a Ferrari, Passion, Love or Hate the two most extremes. I would rather see this than a watered down design that pleases all. This car is bold. Love it or hate it. It's the best thing Ferrari could have done. I would buy two of these just to spite all the small minds in this thread.

Someone mentioned that they think this is geared for Asian consumers. I agree. From what I have been told, roads in China and other SE Asian countries aren't that good, leaving limited places to drive a 599 or 458 without worrying about damage.

Look at the video: they're marketing this thing already like it's a super Subaru. Dirt/gravel, snow, rain, etc. Function first?

I like the FF more for it's technical spec's than it's design.
It will bring some non traditional customers to the fold.

Agreed. The 612 tour went right through China. Those two 612's where raised like 4 inches in ride heights and were being driven in AWD terrains. This car is not out of the blue.

Like the last couple of years, every time Ferrari introduced a new model, they gave us always crapy studiopictures. Except for the wonderfull F458. Maybe they need a new marketing manager.

For me it's something very "special" but not in the way I hoped. I think we have to see the car in real before we can judge. For me it's like the California, F599, F360. They have to grow and the colour choice will be very important.

The car in the video (see pics) is a lot better and more atractive than the red one in the pics.

OMG! A Ferrari that can be used in the real world. What possessed them?
I'm pretty sure that when the second Ferrari was rolled out in the 1940's someone said "That does it. They've sold out" ;)

    What he said.

Again, I recall the initial reaction on this board to the 458 being very positive. The gearbox controversy rages on, as does the inexcusable lack of carburetters :)mad: ), but the 458 is probably Pininfarina's best since the 308/328.

I wouldn't call the FF ugly, but it's an odd direction for Ferrari. There are certain styling cues and proportions that are acknowledged classics, and a "long hood hatchback" configuration isn't among them.

I'm sure the detailing and execution are top notch, but they've traded some looks for some practicality. That may be the right move for the Chinese market, as someone posted above.

Good point. My ass was sore the whole time I had the 328.

Off topic, but I agree with you. The XK120/140 as well -- roadster is a classic, FHC always looked like a "make it fit" design.

The target market is NOT the hardcore enthusiast, which is most of us here.

It's likely the wealthy Asian entrepreneur who values the Ferrari brand, wants to drive one, but doesn't want a collector's item.

As far as watering down the brand, Ferrari did that when they cranked out ~18,000 360s. IMHO, that was the end of Ferrari as something exclusive and hardcore.

Meh, not to my liking, but again I am not a customer that this car was designed for.

My wife thought it did not look like a Ferrari at all. Her reference was Lightning McQueen since the FF has such a "happy face" I thought it looked more like a Mazda front end.

@JRR - I used Android to scan your code!! Cool idea to post that barcode!!

Not sure -- the back end looks very heavy in the bottom image (which may be the least flattering photo I've seen so far).

If a design is right, it's hard to take a bad photo. If you look back to the real California, or the real 250 GTO, 250 GT SWB, Dino 246, etc., you could have a toddler with an iPhone do the photography it wouldn't matter. There's a natural grace to all of those. Even though we're all bored of it, the Porsche 997 also looks good from any angle, as does the Aston Martin Vantage.

    The FF just looks imbalanced.

I obviously haven't seen an FF in person, but photos are generally a very good guide, in my experience. The 458 is looking more like a flash in the pan. I don't know how that came out so svelte and athletic looking, while the rest of the lineup looks ponderous.
