We found some old archives of FerrariChat 1963. I found it in search. Amazingly, the internet existed then. Rob was certainly before his time.

Anyway, I found these files of the 250 Lusso introduction. I think it's interesting to hear some of the comments of Fchatters back then. It seems, not much has changed in all those years...

"A luxury 2 + 2! Is there a market for this? Ferrari is in it just for the money".

"I hear they're going to make more of these than any other past model. Maybe HUNDREDS! There goes exclusivity"

"Fug -ly! Looks like a Chrysler show car. What are they thinking???".

    "My wife would like it".

"Too big. Too luxurious. Too slow. Too ugly".

"A FASTBACK? You have to be kidding"

"De-tuned motor means only one thing... they are going for old men on their way to the grocery stores instead of Tifosi!"

"The lines don't line up. It doesn't flow".

"I bet that hood scoop isn't functional!"

""Too much front overhang. UGLY! Why does that trunk look so big. Must be for golf bags."

"I think Ferrari has lost it's way. It's going too much for luxury and compromised performance. This car doesn't look anything like a Ferrari."

"Typical. Ferrari gives us something so he can put money in his pocket."

"Who wants to ride in the back seat of this monstrocity? Ferrari is going after Mercedes!"

    "too much chome!"

    "not enough chrome!"

"Slow, overweight, and behind the times. This will go down as the biggest mistake ever made".

"Looks like a sketch of next year's Mustang. Is someone from Ferrari spying????"

"Not enough power. Needs at least 300 HP to be a Ferrari."

"I bet one year for now you can get them for half price!"

"First the California... now this! Another boulevard cruiser for the rich! Horrible!"

    "Hideous."

    "My eyes!"

"LOL! It's a Buick without the holes on the side!"

    "Looks like a turd".

"Headlights too big. Tail lights too small".

"The front view is just horrible. Doesn't look anything like any Ferrari I know!"

"Too luxurious. I'm really disappointed it's not more sporty. Looks like something my grandfather would drive."

    "FAIL"

"Wheelbase is waaaaay too long. Too much rear overhang spoils the handling."

"OMG! Ferrari tries to take on Maserati! Dumbest decision ever! Never gonna happen!"

Well played, sir. You've got to give Ferrari credit, if there are 17 potential buyers for something, they will find them.

Cute, but the Lusso is not a 2 + 2.

Was the Lusso really criticized when it was new?

It actually hurts to look at one now, because it makes the modern plastic era of cars look even worse.

    UGH!

Well, I should have researched the 365 Daytona because it certainly was when introduced.

Front engine... behind the times. Handles like a truck. Ugly. Heavy. A poor replacement for the better looking 275 GTB. Weird pop up headlights. Funky front plexiglass cover.

The moderators at Fchat circa 1960's had to deal with some troll named Ferruccio. :)

Mostly in the technical section, all those threads he started about a faulty clutch. What's up with that? Just trying to stir up warranty issues. ;)

Imagine Ferrucio's surprise when the same clutch in his Ferrari was the same clutch as one of his tractors. And don't forget that his machining facilities, at that time, were far more advanced than those of Ferrari.

You know, not everybody was a fan of the new Ferrari Lusso car back in 1963.

I did a search in the fchat archives and found this post from back then.

Poor guy. They perma-banned him soon after he posted this. ;)
