True. And, that's my problem with these computer renderings people post all the time. When the engineers get done with it and you have to fit people in them and they have to useable in the real world, the never look as good as the original idea. Look at how thin the front windshield roof supports are. Not even in CF could you do that and make it strong enough to survive the roll over tests.
I think this car's target is not the traditional Europe - North American audience. It seems they are shooting more for the emerging market parts of the world. Brazil, India, Russia, China. No offense to those from those countries but Ferrari tradition and history might count for less there than in the EU and NA. But then again it would be a great car to blast up to Aspen or St. Moritz for the weekend.
Classic photo Randy! Polarizing indeed. As was mentioned before, there are a lot of overly dramatic responses, especially the superlatives. The same people who probably rate everything as the best/worst evAr!!! I couldn't help but laugh at the comments. Some were just genuinely funny though. Seeing the PR images, I'm also reminded of the Cali-ish front bumper, 458 lights/steering wheel, M Coupe and shooting brake designs, 599 side front gill, etc etc. 100% stylistically original this car? No. However, there are a lot of very cool features that make it work for that agressive look. Much like a Lamborghini LM002 looks beautifully ugly. I love the 612 and the 599, but I'm glad they didn't make another 612/599 look-a-like. The 612 was a gentleman's GT that was beautifully understated. Executive highway bruiser but family friendly. This looks like an aggressive rally/shooting brake design and I applaud them for the overall package. I dig it. What people have voiced displeasure over (without seeing it in person) will probably be the same things they love years from now. You either love it or hate it. Can't wait to see it in person. Sounds mean from the video.
Also nose of the car has to be a certain height for bumper standards. I do think that the name is horrible: "eff-eff" just doesn't roll off the tongue like "three-sixty" or "Italia." "644" would have been better.
I posted these on the other thread, but I think tinted and no badges it looks better. The shape of the badge doesn't fit into the vent area visually. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The front is nice, the rear haunches are nice Its that friggin roof line that is completely wrong like the rear haunches & nose on the Cali a disaster If it had a roof line like a 550/599 it would look a million x better
To steal a line from a movie... The FF looks like Big Foot and Sasquatch had a baby, and that baby took a sh*t, and that sh*t was blinded in a knife fight moments before designing that car.
It's interesting to see how Pininfarina's original idea eventually turned out: http://sintesi.pininfarina.com/ Play it Loud and Sing along! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqg3kcwAgso[/ame]
I love the Sintesi and even posted before the FF was shown officially (and I was sketching me guess-timate) that it was the inspiration for some design elements of FF. But it should be remembered that it was still a show car for an electric vehicle it was low-slung (because all the propulsion elements were cleverly dissimulated throughout the chassis) with a very cab-forward design which would be hard to do with a front-mounted V12 car that is FF. Bluecar, Pininfarinas production design for an electric vehicle, had to make concessions to practicality and manufacturing and after rationalization for production, it also ended up looking far different from Sintesi - not bad, just different. I saw the Blue car live and it was very nice (for a city car) with many little details that are not so obvious from looking at pictures like, for example, the convex sweep on the door that was replicated on the 458. All true but I do think there were some very successful aspects of that one that could have been used.
