I would never drive my ferrari to work for just that sort of reason....things like that can be kidding around, but I bet not. I know it stinks (especially when someone else mocking a ferrari pays more to lease much lesser cars every few years than owning a ferrari, capitalism, free country, people working hard for what they have, etc etc.), but I just wouldn't do it. No one at work knows about my ferrari.

Screw 'em. It's your life and it's only a car. Enjoy the ride to hell with the haters.

After the LA Riots, people for years parked their exotic cars and bought Honda Accords because they were afraid to be seen in one for fear of appearing "rich".

    What a waste.

Patty... you go right ahead and drive that thing!

I hear you- we should just drive them, but at work it's a different dynamic. I work in an industry that had a lot of layoffs in 2008 and 2009, and I'm sensitive to that- I have nothing to gain with people at work finding out about my car...otherwise I drive the car everywhere else I want and don't care what people think ;)

Couldn't agree more. The workplace is not the 'place' for any Ferrari. I know that some businesses differ from others, but many of them should be driven to and from in something other than a Ferrari. Assumptions are made, you are looked at differently, and people are just downright jealous. These tend to be the uninformed folks, but nevertheless, they are there. Cars are meant to be enjoyed by others, not envied, although its usually not the case when the setting isn't right.

Its odd that I can drive my X5 M to work and nobody cares. I think for a $100k SAV most people have no idea what it is so it draws no attention.

A Giallo F430 would be a much different story.

I wish I could drive mine to work, it makes for a funner commute, so good for you.......Steve

And yet, nobody thinks twice seeing a Porsche turbo in the company garage.

only because porsche has horrific brand dilution with SUVs and 40k sports cars. most people don't recognize the greatness of the 911 turbo of gt3 because of the lower end models. In my town a 911 carerra is more common then a honda accord,

An important part of this discussion may be missing. If you just consider the car, I agree, but I think you need to consider the individual driving it. I occasionally drive my 360 Spider to work and I am constantly kidded by the garage people and the maintenance people people in my building, with various funny excuses why they need to drive the car. I take them as good fun and not jealousy, mainly because they know me as the guy that normally drives a Mini and that is really no different than anyone else.

A similar situation applies to work; of course most people are somewhat envious, just as I was when I started to work and saw people driving E types, but it was not personal. For me, it was additional motivation to succeed, and I believe that is the more common belief amongst people I work with. They know who I am and who I am not.

Now, parking on the street or in a garage where you are not known, that is different and sometimes brings out some pretty bad behavior, but fortunately, in my experience, not very often.

Thanks bdelp! The comment of FB was all in fun. Everyone's comments at work were positive. I didn't have a choice but to drive the car to work as my POS was in the shop getting the transmission repaired. Besides, most know the car is my boyfriends and not mine. I only claim them because they are in my garage ;-) He told me to drive the car for the week while mine was being worked on. Nice guy, huh!

My ex-wife drove my slopenose Porsche to work (she was a nurse at a OB clinic) one day (back in the 80's) and one of the Doctors that worked there ran around asking who was there to see him.

After about 15 minutes one of the office staff asked why he thought someone was there to see him... he replied there was a Porsche in the parking lot. I guess he couldn't understand someone working for him driving a nicer car than him.

That is a good point. If I worked in a place where I knew I wasn't highly thought of, I would have never done it. I've been with the company for over 23 years. I've worked with a lot of the same people during that entire time. So we are somewhat of a family.

The person who posted it on FB did not know that I was the one who was driving it. After they learned it was me and the story behind it, they thought it was pretty cool. There are cars in that structure that people paid a lot more for that we paid for the 360, although as you said the uninformed would not know that.
