Happy Birthday again Daniel..
It was indeed impressive... I am glad we could all be part of it. What was the biggest local Porsche Club or Audi drive in Singapore?
A lots of car drive in low gear at KPE! I purposely wind down my window and enjoy the 50 cars symphony playing. Lots of traffic were behind us but strangly all of them were very very patient with our horses!!! :-D Mr President, Biggest Porsche Club Signapore drive is over a 100 porsches in Singapore from Dempesy to Pahang 2 yrs ago. However not so impressive as we have to break into many smaller convoy. Audi Club Singapore convoy in local roads, less than 50 for sure. Btw, the effect of a Ferrari is very different from other makes and it is a very strange phenomenal that everyone will stop what they are doing and stare at the Ferrari Convoy especially when there is so many of us with all our sound tracks playing at the same time!
i think it was essential that the convoy behaved and maintained tight discipline . if we were all haphazard and tearing around ,changing lane, overtaking, i think the response would have been different and there would be public outrage/abuse and inevitable stompage! kudos to the kudas for keeping it calm and controlled!
how many ferraris took part in the ferrari 60th anniversary parade drive during hong seh days? less rite?
This I agreed indeed. Definitely very well behaved drivers all on Sat. Our briefing were very clear and concise and all knew what to do. Btw our Sgt-Major, BT did a wonderful job getting the 2nd half of the convoy in order too. :-D
Now, that 360 does look like an SUV Well done boys, that is a sight to behold. I was with the Porsche boys @ 6.30am! Yikes.
Lung, Why not consider doing a concourse type event in Singapore. That will drag out a lot more of the older cars which would be very interesting. Could do a joint FOCS/PCS event with invitations also to the Malaysian chapters of these car clubs for example which would be a gathering at a location/car park that is capable of displaying/holding all the cars in one location. To invite the Malaysian arms would guarantee some really rare older cars from these marques for example given that there is a strong movement for the older cars in that country. Prizes offered for most historically signficant car/best condition daly driver/most modified/most abused (think my RS would win that)/best showroom condiiton etc. Bit like the Pebble Beach event or Monterey event for example. Would be wonderful to stroll around meeting all the various owners of various cars and seeing a large variety of these machines in one location. Maybe also get some sponsorship from Ital and Stuttgart Auto or Porsche South East Asia for example. Cars all parked by year and model for ease of identification and to see a whole lot of similar machinery would also be great. If SICC or Sentosa are not willing to sacrifice their lawns for our cars to be parked on perhaps less ambitious would be the Big Splash car park. Also good as there are many food establishments there so one could make a day of the event. That would be a great event!
+1 Time will come for this when all the things fall into place. We should be the Monaco of the East I vote for pre-F1 day & when the Changi track is ready (if ever) that'll be even better. Speaking of that, I was in Simpang Bedok yesteday & saw a gentleman driving a red & very sexy 60's GT from Triumph, all mint with classic plate. Weather was good There's a vintage car club in Singapore with it's parent arm in Malaysia & they always gather on a Sunday in the public carpark of Siglap with a turnout of 10+ cars with a drive.
Harold, I was even thinking of setting up an "Ace Cafe" here but the noise pollution will ban it I even went to recce for the venue. Eg. the Changi WWII fort which was up for rent by SLA
I still stop and stare whenever one passes me by! One car that we are missing are the 400/412. Believe there are only 2 left, white and red? Also no 348 nor Mondis in Sat's drive?
Jon, problem is that in Asia while there is money sloshing around, few had the chance to cultivate the love for history/art as compared to Europe/US mainly due to circumstances in the early/mid of last century when we were a poor region. I can bet you a 250GTO will get much fewer stares than say a LP640 side by side here as compared to the West. I hope that will change but don't count on it. Hence a Pebble beach style event may not even attract the crowds needed to justify the cost of hosting one.
Mate, Ace Cafe would be a stunning idea. But seriously mate, any cafe in Big Splash could act as our Ace Cafe- huge parking in the morning on weekends.
The cost would be nil if one were to just host a car gathering at Big Splash- each person pays their own car park entry there and thats it. At most, sponsors provide some prizes for certain categories. And to park at Big Splash has the added avantage of many food locations- one could even extend the event to the evening and end with a dinner/drink bash at 1-26 there, or any number of other restaurants there. The idea is more a gathering organised logistically by the clubs but with no immediate outlay for the organisers... This might be a way to start.
Well I'm sure if a few of us put our hearts and minds to it, it could indeed grow and attract the right attention here and across the causeway. I'll most certainly be game for it!
actually for saturday's drive , the club did make an effort to try and get the older cars out, n we had a pretty good turnout i counted at least 10 older cars including seng gee's dino, some 308s, testas, 355s- so a older/classic car convoy is definitely possible, esp if u extend to other makes, esp porsches. not sure we're ready for concourse tho as the level of originality/ restoration of classics here has not quite caught on yet (eg. my tr has 512 body kitand no fins!)
sorry my friend who bought my white 412 was out of town and i still havent found out who bought my mondial tho i did call the dealer who sold it to try and get him to come. we also missed your dad's 308. joseph (harold's ex 348 t) was out of town as was calvin (348B), ben (348 spyder) was sick and roy teo(328 ) didnt turn up. i was ordered to use my onboard radio for sweeper duty so cldnt drive the tr, so if one puts in a bit more effort ,we could put together quite a decent line up of f oldies. im also going to try n install onboard set for my tr . anyone can pm me perry's mobile please.
Its great that FOCS extends itself aggresively to the owner of the older cars... sadly... it seems that PCS doesn't have quite the same reach so older cars are usually found only on private drives. Thats the really interesting thing... in Porsche circles there are many older 911's for example that have been purchased and are having the looks restored back to the original impact bumper look for example- in fact the original cars are now beginning to see a premium over the cars that have had their looks updated. Mate, it may be time to stary looking for your old parts again and back dating that baby of yours. Seng Gee made it to the drive? I thought I bumped into him at a watering hole the night before... but I was already worse for wear... maybe it wasn't even him.
Guys, just heard that tyre prices are set for another round of increase in Feb by approx 8% for Bridgestone as rubber prices have been trending in the wrong direction for us end users. I just bought a set of rears to change after FOCS's track day.
Now you know why I keep my car as stock as possible . Only use aftermarket in the engine thanks to some crap OEM stuff.
Roy's car is in such a lovely condition that it deserves to be kept in a showroom. I cannot tahan as cars need to be driven the way Enzo wanted it to be so I have to accept stone chips and whatever that comes with the fun.
Absolutely mate, exotic cars should be stock, or at best modified sympathetically for the era of car. I remember when i had my 348, the only modification to it was the use of the Speedline Challenge rims which were used on the 348 for the Challenge series, and a Challenge exhaust.
