I've given up trying to figure it out. They come up with models like the Aperta that is sold out in advance in complete secret, With others like the 458 they release spy teaser pics for months building interest and then they usher in the FF with a cool video and lousy pictures. Is here any coherent thought behind any of this?
I heard this old joke when I was a kid. The president of the United States visits the Pope. He sees on the Pope's desk a beautiful gold and jeweled incrusted telephone with wings. The president asks the Pope what this phone is for. The Pope says "I use this to talk to God in heaven!". The President is amazed. He asks if he can use it. The Pope says "Yes, but it will cost you 10 million dollars!" "10 million dollars! You must be joking. I'm not paying that much!"... and the President leaves. The next day, the President visits Enzo in his office in Maranello. The president sees the exact same phone on Enzo's desk. The president asks Enzo "Can I make a call to heaven?" Enzo says "Sure! But it will cost you a quarter." THe president says: "A quarter! The Pope was going to charge me 10 million dollars"! Enzo says "that's because from here its a local call."
An old favorite of mine as well. Not quite on topic but it reminds me of the old line about the Boston aristocracy. Boston the land of the bean and the cod where the Lowells talk only to the Cabots and the Cabots talk only to god.
400k will be the death of this car. My 2005 612 cost 285.I don't see people wanting to pay that MSRP But I do think your very close
I had also shortened the wheelbase / front hood a bit (because it just looked like a long straight school bus hood), but I think that's a bit unrealistic as now there won't be room for a 12 cyl. I think the front end should be stretched back out to its original length, but then make the fenders "sexier". But it still has to be different from a Maserati, Jaguar, Aston Martin, etc.
A Ferrari should be the type of car that a 12 year old would put on a poster in their bedroom. It should be the type of car that inspires dreams and evokes emotion. Unfortunately, Porsche showed that you can stray from your sportscar roots with relatively little downside and lots of new $$$ coming in the door. I fear that Ferrari is chasing $$$ at the expense of its brand. They've already tried to merchandise everything they can get their hands on, but that only works if people view the brand as something they want to associate themselves with. It is disappointing that the most famous and exotic marque in the world with access to the best of designers and carte blanche to make cars as wild and impractical as they want is feeling threatened by Bentley and Aston Martin and Porsche.
The cult (and value) around that car are growing by the day. Z3 M Coupes will be a classic, as will this. We just haven't seen the best photos yet and many folks here haven't seen past the conventions of their expectations. This is simply an evolution to their four-seat archetype and a pretty interesting one by me.
Honestly now... does ANY 4 seat Ferrari ever made appear on the bedroom wall of a 12 year old? Did any kid drool over the 612? The person who will buy this car is not the same one who buys a 458. He wants something that will take his clients or family around town or on the road. He wants room for luggage and golf bags. He wants something that has some degree of practicality with "no excuses anymore" about style over function. I'm in constant amazement that people keep forgetting the 200 people a year this car will be sold to. It's like writting a critique of the taste of suishi when you're allergic to seafood. What good does it do for anyone?
No disrespect intended but I am sickened by this POS. What in God's name were/are they thinking?! Granted, we have seen some other, "less-than-desirable" Ferraris, such as the 400A, but this is an abomination. Truly. What's next? A pickup truck? This replaces the 612?? That's like a tumor replacing an athlete's muscle. Nauseatingly yours
I have not seen that anyone has been upset about the fact that they were not informed or given a preview of this model, or the opportunity to purchase it before its introduction. It's different when beauty is concerned. Best, David
Well I have to say that's the nicest thing I've ever heard anyone say about the 612 - I think the FF is a much better looking car.
Somebody said basically this in the 612 section: If cars sold by how well 12 year olds like them, Lamborghini would have made a million Countach's instead of going bankrupt and being sold to Audi.
You folks are a tough crowd to please. As I've said before, it's a 2+2 which, historically, have not been Ferrari's strongest line in terms of style and beauty. It has been designed to cater to a subset of their clientele that wish to experience a Ferrari without feeling like they are running naked through a busy intersection in NYNY in the morning. In short, it has been designed not to draw the stares of curb-standers the world over whilst transporting the owner, his wife and their guests in Maranello's best brown bag experiment since the 365 GT4 2+2. I'm sure the eventual 373 owners of this vehicle will agree. And besides, the arse end of it looks nothing like a swollen Cheetah's vagoo like that unholy abomination that was tacked onto the California.
Meh. It's a caricature of the cars that came before it. It doesn't possess an identity of its own; it's neither the past, present or the future. Instead, it's stuck in some kind of weird corporate blender that's stirring up a soulless amalgam of designs from which a committee of MBA's pluck something they think will sell. It leans far too much upon the past while offering nothing new that can stand on its own. Car designers, unlike scientists, should not stand on the shoulders of giants. Every shape, every design should be something new unto itself and the universe. There's nothing wrong with retro, but when retro as a theme becomes institutionalized and held higher in regard than new designs, then perhaps it's time for some car designers to put away their crayons.
You are absolutely wrong! Why do you not allow Ferrari to build a range of cars with different character? "If you have kids-take the Cayenne" - i have a Cayenne as daily driver, but i want to take my wife and daughter to our Ferrari Club Events. I want to have a safe ride without troubles when they are with me. And it has to be a Ferrari! Whats wrong with that? When i want more action i take the Spider and for classic event i take the Dino. If the new FF would be the only Ferrari i would agree. Thats not the kind of sportscar a 15 year old would love to have a poster from. But i am 50+ and i love the choice between different types of Ferrari. Today we had much snow - and the Cayenne worked perfectly!
