I am trying to find the name and FChat identity of one of your fellows that I met at Cavallino on Saturday. We talked extensively about vintage Ferraris. He owns a C/4 and is a member in the "Carby Club".

He gave me a lot of helpful information including the fact that upgrading the brakes on my 330 GTC would not be all that difficult. Then he introduced me to Zack Dugger, a brake expert w/ ties or friends at Brembo.

It had been a long day and now I don't remember his name. And he had no card for me to follow up with him. I did give him one of my cards.

    Any ideas????

That's me. Do you need Zac's contact details? If so please PM me and I will give them to you. He won last year at Cavallino with the burgandy GTE. He is a car restorer from SoCal, not just a brake expert. It was funny we kept seeing your 330GTC around town not knowing it was yours. Beautiful car.

It was a good show for the rare cars but a bit low on numbers for the "normal" cars such as Daytonas, 330GTCs, C4s, 246 Dinos, GTEs, etc etc. Besides your 2 cars and the C4s of course, I loved the white 375MM Coupe in the photo below. Such a unique car and luckily the owner likes to actually drive it properly. He was even interested in taking it on one of our "carby drives" that I told you about. If you need any more info on the brake upgrade etc just let me know.

    John,

Glad we made contact again. Sometimes at these events you meet so many people, but only two or three that you want to continue to converse with. Wish you and I could have met at the bar to trade stories but I had to attend the "rubber chicken" awards dinner.

With respect to the cars on the field this has been the norm at Cavallino for the past few years. For the last 2 yrs there were no GTCs, few C/4s and a maybe one GTE. Daytonas usually are in larger numbers and Dinos go in and out depending on the year. However the significant and rare cars like the 375 MM are desired and heavily pursued by Cavallino while our "pedestrian" vintage cars are not on the sought after list. Just the nature of the event I guess.

Although I have been to Cavallino 5 times this is the first year I entered a car to be judged. Nomally I just go and look at all the "heavy metal" on the lawn. But I figured the Dino deserved its day in the [almost] sun. At least it garnered a gold award so I guess it was worth it. I had more fun driving the stink out of my GTC than polishing the Dino.

I do have Zac Duggers phone number and will get in contact with him. One by one I have identified and rectified the weaknesses of the GTC. I have modified and improved the cooling, electrics and a/c in the car. Rebuilding the engine and suspension revitalized its strengths. Only poor brakes remain to be addressed. Ultimately if I get the brakes improved it will be a complete car. Just so you know how I use it.....yesterday I drove it 200 miles home. Tonight I used it as my pizza delivery vehicle. That is how versatile the GTC is. My fav......

Thanks so much for your help and insight. Wish you were a bit closer as Australia is a bit daunting of a trip to us over here. Maybe you will join me in a group trip to Italy. I have mapped out a phenomenal luxury Mille Miglia tour.....the best villas, restaurants while driving the MM route over 12 days. Not sure I will get it off this year, but probably next.

    cheers

Shame we met on the last afternoon, but as you say you meet so many people it is very busy. I was with Zac and a few other guys and we were running around a lot. A bit of a blur really and not much sleep either. 2 and 3 hours sleep a day takes it's toll. I am now in San Fran catching up on that sleep. Did you talk to Jeff from Boca with the red C4?

The "heavy metal" is worth seeing, and makes Cavallino great, but it is a pity there are not more "normal" cars there, if you can call a Daytona, 330 GTC, GTE or a Lusso normal.

Driving sure beats polishing any day.

Keep in touch. Maybe we can do the Mille tour together. Zac has done a few and has some good advise. You should have my email.

Cheers and keep on enjoying your GTC. That road you told me about in the national forest park near your new holiday house sounds like it would be better enjoyed with some improved brakes on the GTC. It also sounds like an ideal Dino road.
