Ferrari 2008 Rank: 93 2008 Brand Value (Millions): $3,527 Parent Company: Fiat The newly rich in Asia and the Middle East cant wait to get behind the wheel, while Ferraris 599 GTB Fiorano model boosted sales in developed markets. http://images.businessweek.com/ss/08/09/0918_best_brands/94.htm
If somehow living in a country makes one an expert in marketing, then China must have a couple of BILLION marketing experts. Or, maybe that's not a very reliable definition.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHR4DdjlrVY&feature=related[/ame] I want an inelegant retort to this. But for some reason, facts speak for themselves.
Ferrari isn't even mentioned in this BusinessWeek list of the Top 100 brands: http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/07/top_brands/index_01.htm But, no matter. Whether Ferrari is 101st or 93rd, it's a far cry from second. And, even more importantly, Ferrari is DEAD LAST in competition against other auto manufacturers. Compared to Mercedes-Benz and BMW, Ferrari isn't even on the radar screen. Those are the facts, Ryan. Try not to hate the messenger.
BDelp is an exec in China who manages the production and marketing of some well known products. If you spend any time with him as I have been able to, you can recognize that he knows what he's talking about in many areas - and in branding and marketing I take his considerations pretty seriously, to the point of asking his feedback on my own business.

Lets look at that, shall we? BMW in 2009 made 1,258,417 four-wheeled vehicles and employed over 92,000 people. Mercedes in 2009 was a bit more. Ferrari in 2009 made less than 7000 cars and employes about 3000 people. You would have to be stupid to think that with those numbers that BMW and Merc would NOT be about universally know. Of course they are. We dont hate the messenger except when the messenger is saying something stupid... oh wait.
Where are these facts you speak of ? Ferrari is not competing with BMW or Benz in Asia. As BDelp said ...here is a fact. Over 1000 new Ferraris are sold in HK every year. If the citizens of HK are aware of Ferrari (and buying a lot of them per capita) what makes you think the Chinese wont do the same ? I also work in China and HK and most people who can afford a Ferrari knows of them. Why wouldnt they ?
"Ferrari is not competing with Mercedes-Benz or BMW in Asia"? You're right. Ferrari isn't. Ferrari is not even in the game. Last year Mercedes-Benz sold in China roughly 146,670 more cars than Ferrari did. Mercedes sold more than 18,000 cars in December alone. Those are the facts: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/mercedes-benz-china-sales-more-than-double-in-2010-2011-01-12
Of course Ferrari doesn't compete with MB across all model lines. They do compete with the very top of the MB range though.
Your 15 years old right? That's why you can not post mush during school hours? Of course Ferrari is not competing with Mec. Heck, they dont compete with Mec in Germany or the US either. They compete with Lamborghini...!
... for supporting my analysis. Or perhaps you didn't bother reading what you cut and pasted? Somebody, I am sure quite innocently, said that (paraphrasing) the Ferrari brand was second only in worldwide recognition to Coca-Cola. I'm pretty sure that notion has been debunked: Best Global Brands By Interbrand 2008 (rank) 93rd*** Perhaps you hadn't noticed, but that's awfully close to the bottom, Ryan, and a far cry from il Numero Due.
A whole 1,000 cars!?!? Gee! That's simply amazing! And to think, China only has a population of 2 BILLION people and produces about one new millionaire every minute!! Cheers to Ferrari for being the tallest midget in the room!!
