While fiddling with removing my front bumpers to remove the grille (71 Euro GT), I noticed a threaded mount point at each end of the center air inlet below the grille. By threaded I mean there's one of those small threaded plates attached to the back of the sheet metal. On my car, this area is painted black, probably contributing to why I hadn't noticed it before. What can it be for?

Dinos of your car's vintage had a removable panel that screwed in place under the grille. Many, if not most, cars with this feature have had the panel removed, either because of damage (it is in a very vulnerable spot), or to aid in cooling. These are most likely the holes where that panel, which is not evident in your photo, had been previously attached to the front pan. Fred

Was this removable panel a solid panel or wire mesh?

It was a solid panel with two rectangular openings in it. No wire mesh was employed. Fred

Any idea where one might find one (to bolt on just before a concours...for the judges sake)? I came up empty at Superformance and Dinoparts.de.

I have only seen one come up for sale on eBay once. Most have been discarded.

Do you have one you'd share as a template??

Valeria's shop is pretty good.....although the rounded edged panels are harder to do....

My "L" had the wrong undernose with the rounded intakes and had to remake the whole thing with square openings...
It was shot anyway, so might as well do it right.
My guess, is these cars were repaired with whatever was on the shelf, and no one paid too much attention to what went where.
Of course, there is a proper nose for every car. I have seen an "E" with square openings just like yours...

As far as the Superformance part, it is anybody's guess if it will be a perfect fit, as all Dino have small differences, so some juggling might be required. I will make one to fit to my nose, not that I will ever use it...

    Regards, Alberto

Was outbid and it sold for something like a grand....wasn't expecting that. I would never use one here.....you know what the weather is like, don't have to worry too much about keeping the car "warm"

They are easy to fabricate, though it would be good to have a real one as a template. They are made of flat aluminum with a few simple bends. Mine is still original (let me know if you want pictures), but copies have been made of it.
