The angle of that shot looks like a Honda Accord (the picuture of the car, not the horse ) ! I'm sure it doesn't look as much as an Accord in the flesh, but it does in that picture! It's not for any of us to decide but....the nice thing about being on a web forum is, people can post opinions and have a discussion! The whole point of being on here
I am late to this thread but WOW....what are Ferrari thinking? Very dissapointing they are going the Porsche route. The Ferrrai Cayene or whatever they call it is not far off. Sad. Ferrari is changing into just another automobile Corporation with a capital C content to flog as many cars as it can.
So it has never occurred to you that some people have different tastes and styling preferences? If someone likes something that you deem to be ugly or sub-par they must have a psychological issue? Way to keep it objective. The majority of the lock-step conformity seen these days around Fchat is the near unanimous dislike of new designs. If anyone dares to come forward and say that they actually like a design, they are ridiculed and labeled as simpletons that automatically salivate over anything coming from the doors of Maranello.
What I don't understand is they own Maserati and that is the perfect brand to fill the 4-seater market, heck you can buy a 4 door Maserati. Why dilute and confuse the brands when they have everything, ie: FIAT - cheap and cheerful, quality day to day cars. Alfa Romeo - the sporty more GT market, but price competitive cars. Maserati - luxury 4 seater GT and saloons with a performance edge. Ferrari - impractical silly sports cars. If they wanted they could make Lancia a luxury non-sporty car to completely cover the market, but being Italian I can't see them ever not having that sporty edge Pete
Totally agree. Then again even Porsche thought it was necessary to make the Cayenne and the Panamera. Two cars reminiscent of the beautiful lines of a Saab or Volga. I'm delighted that the majority here condemns the car. Maybe that will prevent some nouveau rich with more money than taste from buying this monstrosity. After all, what's the point in arriving in your super expensive Ferrari if everybody laughs at you?

This afternoon I attended the preview of the Ferrari ff, at Ferrari North America headquarters in New Jersey. Unfortunately the car confirmed what I thought, as I saw the pictures and videos. Despite an outstanding display of technology, horse power, torque, four wheel drive, excellent transmission, etc, and enough space and good taste inside the car, this is a hatchback - or a more politically correct: a shooting brake. People said, you have to see it in real, it will grow on you, etc. As far as I am concerned this is not a beautiful car, not in the tradition of Ferrari elegance and sensuous lines. It will not grow on me, and by the way the best looking Ferraris did not need to wait for me to learn to like the car. Either you like it immediately or it is not an outstanding beauty. Just think at the reactions when the 458 was first seen! Nobody said, it will grow on you, because it was love at first sight. This car is not a replacement of the 612; Ferrari acknowledges that they are looking for a different market segment, and I can bet that they might sell a substantial amount of this cars, since there is a demand for this type of product. But they killed the 612, and they have not produced a replacement. A different car, for a different buyer. It probably makes a lot of business sense, but that is not the Ferrari I love.

That's interesting...I wonder if the article is correct, as I very recently heard that Maserati was working on the SUV (using the Jeep Cherokee platform of all things)- I think just several days ago in an article in the WSJ maybe, where the president of Fiat mentioned it? It would make NO sense for ferrari to make an SUV. It bears repeating....beware if Ferrari is partially spun off to raise money for Fiat (to buy more of Chrysler or whatnot)- new investors will want $$ results, whereas being a part of Fiat Ferrari can keep things traditional Italian exotic/special and kind of get lost in the financials since they are so small vs. Fiat. I just read in my porsche club magazine where VW wants porsche to increase production from 75,000 units/year to 150,000 units/year! If Ferrari starts doubling/quadrupling production and making crap like SUVs just to make a few extra bucks the brand will never be the same or mean the same. If they make this new FF hatchback and follow it up with the SUV they will sell a bunch of them in Asia and UAE/Saudi/Dubai etc because a lot of those people have crazy money and go through exotics/ultra luxury cars the way I go through a can of soda- and Ferrari will make a fortune. But they will have sold their soul.... Maybe it doesn't matter to me as there are enough desirable ferraris made up to and including the 599 and 458 that I can buy used models for the rest of my life, but what a shame nonetheless. I think Chris Bangle was secretly hired to head design at Ferrari and they are trying to pull the wool over our eyes by not telling us (BMW fans will get the joke )

The problem is the buyers with the deep pockets dont see Maserati as worth the kind of price Fiat wants to get for these cars. They need the Ferrari name to get people to pay $300k
Good catch- I didn't notice the 2008 date, but perhaps the article was accurate they were working on an SUV seperate from the FF, but when Fiat got Chrysler with the "bailout", they tweaked the project to be a maserati and use the jeep platform? The pic in the 2008 article is a 4-door...
Very true! When I bought my Maser, I thought it was the bargain of the century. I still do. It's beautiful, powerful (at least by most car standards), has an amazing interior, is still bascially hand built/ custom ordered, has a motor built on the Ferrari assembly line, and a terrific sound. Plus, I like saying "Maserati" when people ask what it is! I paid exactly $100 grand for it. Today maybe it's worth at best 30. So, it lost 10 K per year. Guess what... try buying a Cadillac every 3 years and see what you lose in depreciation. Some people have lost 70K in their Scuds in one year. It's all realtive.
Fiat took Maserati back from Ferrari in 2005. I think the article just made some judgements based on what info they had.
