I hate to add yet another Schu thread, but this one is actually interesting. Looks like his rhetoric is not backing down. Early fchat conjecture suggested Schu was off his 8th title high-horse, me included, but it looks like we were all wrong. He's still a racing driver after all. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89092 In an exclusive interview with this month's F1 Racing, Schumacher said that he had no doubts about what was possible over the remaining two years of his contract. When asked if he expected to be world champion in 2011, he said: "Absolutely. Look, we have a three-year project. Very clearly right now, we are not where we want to be. We've put a lot of effort into coming back and are optimistic we have a chance. "But in the history of Formula 1, when does it ever happen that you come back straightaway from this level to win in just one year? Very rarely. "So I'm sure we can fight for wins this year and we might be able to fight for the championship. I hope so. I'm here on a mission and I want to succeed. I want to perform and I'm going to put 100 per cent into it. And if that's not the case in 2011, then we will have to do it in the final year."
Talk is cheap. He should let his driving do the talking. That's good advice for ALL drivers to follow. OTOH, if he doesn't believe in his bones that he still has it and can win, he shouldn't be out there. CW
Before all the haters jump all over him - let's be clear about what he actually said "So I'm sure we can fight for wins this year and we might be able to fight for the championship" He's not guaranteeing anything - which seems to get misinterpreted all the time Kevin
Anyone who doesn't have that attitude shouldn't be in a race car. Good for him though i look forward to Ferrari beating him in the next two years.
I don't see anything wrong with what was written? An optimistic view of the season to come? Hopeful for an 8th? What type of attitude would you expect from a champion.....heck even the guys at HRT have the same goals eventually don't they? No matter how remote your chances are you want to win, otherwise why do it?
Oh I agree, it's the attitude that we believed him to have the past couple months which has been put to rest. Some of us on fchat believed Schu really backed down from 2010 talk where he wanted to win an 8th title, to, "I hope to be fighting for wins" etc. The above article appears more in line with his 2010 pre-season chats. And I agree, the minute a racing driver does not want to fight for the championship is the moment they are not a racing driver. I believe Ayrton Senna said something like that, although what he said was more aggressive as it was the race where he ran Prost off the road at the beginning of the race taking both of them out.
It very well could be real. The front nose wing and nose in general is definitely different. The wing portion protrudes forward while MB01 had pillars attaching the wing facing straight down.
+1. He doesn't come across and cocky or arrogant, or delusional. He is saying what anyone who say in his position. Coming back is difficult, but he would not have attempted it if he wasn't going to give it his all, and try for the ultimate goal. GO MS I want to see you win again!
Many reasons, but the most obvious is they want to hide what they have. For all we know this is MB01 graphically enhanced in certain areas.
Well, of course he has to talk about the title. Thats what champions do. Like someone above mentioned...He's targeting, and at the same time, not guaranteeing the 8th title.
First day of testing at 9:20am. Shortly after Red Bull reveals RB7 and before Lotus-Renault shows R31.
Hey, read the entire line, not just one word. That's what gets politicians in trouble.
Isn't that funny? I know Andreas is just trying to stir the pot - that's why I posted what I did above. Kevin
Not at all. Just pointing out that MS thinks he will win the title next year. Let's revisit this in November 2012.
What do you expect him to say? "I'm just an old man, I don't have it in me any more". Of course his goal is to win. Whether he can do it or not will depend heavily on the team of course. But I have no doubt he could be a contender with a Top 3 car. If he has the best car (very unlikely) he would be a serious threat. The man breathes competition in a way none of us can compare to. He's not going to be a wallflower.
Sounds good to me. I think he said all the right things and sounds like he is in a good state of mind. He is between a rock and hard place. He says he expects to win and doesn't, everyone hammers him. If he ever said he didn't expect to win, everyone would hammer him. Now, Michael, GO WIN SOME RACES! and let your driving talk for you. Alex
