The F2007 is my favorite "modern V8 era" 2006-Up F1 car. Plus the fact it won the drivers and constructors championships helps. I have a bunch of pics of the car and I noticed two things. 1- Some have a cool little hole in the front of the nose. Anybody know why some have it and some don't? Also, what is it for? 2- At some races it was a brighter red, and at others it was a darker red. What was the reason for this? First two pics show hole/no hole. Last two show the bright/dark red. I believe the hole on the nose was to cool the electrical systems after some overheating issues. I don't know about the colors though.
I think they changed the color at the Monaco GP; beautiful color. Can't remember the reason though....
I figured it was to cool something, wasn't sure what. I love the way it looks, so them finding a cure for cooling some items gave the car a good look!
I've heard over the bbc broadcast, the hole are to for cooling the driver. All the cars have them in one form or another
Some i managed to dig up... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is from an Autosport article: "After much speculation, Ferrari's radical new nose cone was finally unveiled today during testing at the Barcelona circuit. As Felipe Massa tested the F2008 on Bridgestone's slick tyres, the car was fitted with a slotted nose cone. This 'hole in the nose' is aimed at making use of the high-pressure air that builds up between the front wing and the underside of the nose. This would improve the car's downforce by sending a better airflow to the rear wing. What Ferrari have done is to create a channel inside the nose cone that takes this high-pressure region and vents it over the top of the chassis. From overhead shots the hole's outlet can be seen, with one large exit split into two. This probably helps the exit flow merge with the flow already passing over the car. Ferrari were testing an array of pitot tubes in front of the engine's inlet snorkel. These sensors would have picked up the differing air speed going into and over the airbox."
IIRC the aero hole in the nose was at its underside, with the hole we're talking about indeed being intended for cooling. Not sure, though.
Far Out, I do not know the truth I was just adding some info I remembered from the past. TifosiUSA, No disagreement I was just relaying my love for that car.
Well, that might not be the same thing as the quote you have says F2008, we are talking about the F2007. I think it is simply to cool something....and it sure looks good.
Exactly. The F2007 was to me the last really good looking F1 car, and it won the drivers and constructors championships!
The F1 248, F2007, F2008, F60, F10, and F150 should, technically have the same power output due to the engine freeze.
See I thought that too. But I found this 1950-2010 Ferrari F1 car spread from some racing magazine and they list the power as this: 248 F1 - 790 F2007 - 800 F2008 - 830 F60 - 800 F10 - 815 But we all know power doesn't always mean a quicker lap time, hence why the F2007 is quicker around Fiorano then the F2008.
Well, i assume Ferrari was allowed to tune their engines, just like Toyota and Renault was allowed. Regarding the lap times, probably due to the tyres, drivers, weather, heck even aero settings...
