That's the plate I've discussed many times on this forum. Carl said it's original. Haven't seen it written like that though. Normally it's either stamped or written using a scriber.
Pete you might want to post that pic in the 308 section..lm pretty sure lve seen someone elses car with the same paint sticker...l cant remember if it was in person or here..
PP The sticker is period correct......new repro one's are available from Eurospares in the UK. But the colour code 505/c was used from 1984 onwards(QV cars)so it isn't correct for your car. The Azzuro code on the 2v injected cars was 502/c.......not sure on glass/steel carby cars...........Carl would probably know? The colour is Azzuro..........ask me how I know....L.O.L! And as Brett says, they were written in pen or scribed on the earlier cars........not written in texta/marker pen! Don't you hate it when B27 is right about something.....L.O.L! P
As per previous comments it would appear to be a replacement one. The one on my 76 UK spec GTB was stamped as shown below and I'm pretty sure it is the original. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks gents. Car ran faultlessly today in near 40 deg heat...I love my 308.. I saw a red GTB with shields going the opposite way on the Monash earlier. (it was outbound) It looked lovely, of course.
Question - are all Aussie new Vetroresina 308s wet sump? A couple have made their way from Oz to NZ and they are all wet sumps.
Every one I've ever seen is a wet sump......but there are plenty I haven't seen. AFAIK they were all wet sump in Aus.
Shields? Oh you mean fender horseys I guess. Well wasn't me for a change. Glad you had a good day, mine was stuck in the garage while I was at work melting
Yes Japan, Australia and the US were all wet sump. I was told by the UK f-club "archiver" that less than 40 dry sump RHD glass cars were made and they all went to the UK, and many more LHD into Europe. I have #19 and I know of 3 others in Aus.
where were you today? you missed a good day,for a change there were more V8 cars then 12's Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey Rob, thanks for the pics, thought it would be a good turnout, obviously needed a red 308 one to complete the rainbow! I had work commitments I couldn't get out of unfortunately.
Good question and I doubt ADR's had anything to do with it as my UK car passed engineering compliance with no engine mods. Someone suggested to me it was because they used the remaining "better" engines fromthe GT4 series in the markets where they [Ferrari] would generate the best $ longer term. Probably make sense but who really knows.
Phil told me the Aussie cars seem to have the wet sump engines as they also needed air injection for ADR, and the Air pump takes up the room needed for the oil tank etc. Wet sump cars can be modified to reduce oil surge, but they always run the oil hotter, and hold less. Also, the oil cooler and lines are under full engine oil pressure (which can lead to problems) on a wet sumper, but the dry sump cooler and lines are all crankcase/atmospheric pressure.
Don't know that one, have any more details? There was a very low mileage one for sale at the classic bottle shop in Sydney for some time last year(#19369). It had been exhibited in a museum in the UK for many years and had less than 3000 miles on the clock, they were asking AU$180K for it originally which was a bit of a laugh.
