Importing a whole car for parts is a great idea especially if you got one with very low mileage. And then you play abit of jigsaw and pick and choose and only the best bits go in. The other car turns into a stripped down track car!

    Thats what I did.

Will keep ya in the loop if one comes up.

Looked at yr photo last week but couldnt figure out where it was until yesterday. I was driving along Tanjong Katong road towards ECP exit towards Airport. It looks very much like the exit road just before hitting ECP. As you drive along the road, the right has a small substation like structure, while the top road is actually the flyover going over the ECP towards east coast beach/slip road. I may be wrong but it sure looked similar

Harold, just join SMSA the official association for karting & racing. With that, you can import a car fitted out for tracking purposes & just pay 7% GST, I think there's no import duty but please run a check & many people have done it. The car can be kept in a workshop etc.

You can start with the small cc class

    http://www.smsa.org.sg/

An easy way is just buy an ex-race car to use in Sepang. The workshops here can do everything for you for much lesser since our Changi complex may take forever to complete. There are several 997GT3RSes that are not registered but meant for track use only, remember that orange car I posted last year? It's about S$200K then & you can export it anytime or some track focused Integras etc for S$50K+/- with spares.

The problem with that Jon is that the car must be entered into competition "regularly" whatever that means. As a result, it more or less takes the fun out of what for me is now a hobby....

    Thats only with SMSA etc.

Most people just bring in the car themselves. Source the car, import it in, declare as a track car, and keep it at a garage or at home. Tow it wherever it needs to go and you will be fine.

Got a few mates who did this for their track cars. S2000s, EK9s, WRX, Evos etc.... They are hobbyists who run the track for fun. And do not want to thrash their daily drivers. So in some ways, a little like your scenario.

My GC WRX is in the same way. However, its now just sitting around serving its life as coffee table and dust collector. You could share it with me if you want and punt it around whenever you feel like it at PG or SIC.

tradecarview.com is a good place to check out and see how much cars cost. Another website is Tao Corporation I believe. Sort out the shiipping costs, the import procedure etc and you will be good to go.
My garage mates have a FD2R for sale if ya want. It received 3rd place at the MME 2009!

But do let me know if you need help. I have a few friends who have done this for themselves. They will have a clearer idea.

oh! and dont forget, once in as a track car, go the whole nine yards and enjoy it to the max. Full roll cage, lightening, cabin reinforcement etc......lovely!!

Hahaha! That coffee table thing is funny :) Great info mate. We have a lot to learn from u, Harold?

Btw, are we allowed to tow cars etc on our SUVs in SG? We used to tow a small boat to Changi for fishing & thought that I saw some folks towing their scrambler bikes to & from Malaysia recently.
