    Hope everyone is staying inside, no travel and be smart = safe. The drive home at 2 pm today was very bad. Slippery with near white-out conditions as snow plows passed on the highway. This seems to be the start of a historic snow storm.

    Looks like most everything will be closed tomorrow, except FChat;)

    My commute home (which typically takes 35 min.) took me 2hrs. 15 min. On the other hand, I do like the feeling of driving mastery coming from piloting an AMG in a blizzard.

    Just hope the power stays on. My area has a bad rep when it comes to power outages. Not a good night to be on the roads with your family trying to find a hotel with road conditions as they are. Lites have been flickering and Tv's and computers been poping on and off for the last hour or so. I'll keep my fingers crossed and watch the weather channels. Hope everyone is dug in,comfortable and ready for what some are already calling "The Storm of the Century."

    I know what you mean.
    This time I'm prepared,have a new Generac with 20KW that restores all power within 30 seconds.....
    So quiet that can not be heard unless you stand next to it.

    I'm back to work tomorrow for 0940 roll call. We've already been told we will probably go on a tactical alert which means 12 hours shifts and days off are cancelled until further notice. My short term plan.............park in the closed school lot at Naperville and Roosevelt and read my new Excellence magazine without moving for 8 hours......

    I just checked my work email. The City of Wheaton has declared a state of emergency. All days off and cancelled and we've been told to pack clothes. Our Public Works is stating they expect most roads to be impassable. Oh boy............. Stay safe everyone

    Wife couldn't get out of the driveway. Over a foot of snow with drifts to 3 ft. Not going anywhere!

    I keep peeking out the windows. It's definitely gotten a lot worse in the last hour. There'll be no clean-up until the winds subside. Maybe Wednesday afternoon....?

    Lost the power 7pm. last night and got it back around 9am this morning. My two boys were excited about our adventure. Me and the wife not so much. We stuck it out since we couldn't have gotten out of the driveway anyway. Got down to 50 degrees in the house this morning. Winter coats , hats and a long cold nite. Could have had a very different ending if the power hadn't been restored when it was. Everyone on the news was telling everyone to prepare. What good are groceries,candles,and gas in the car. IF YOU HAVE NO POWER ........NO HEAT and no way to leave with three foot drifts on the driveway during a winter storm. Can't leave and can't stay. It was a very dangerous situation that could have ended very badly. I'm with absent. I'm no longer going to sit back and put my families well being at risk when other options are available. Next stop.......Guardian Generator. Last year I was quoted 7K to lite up the whole house....furnace ,kitchen, tv and lites. This year its a done deal!

    OK it took me 2 hours to clear 1/4 of my driveway and now my snowblower is stuck. Suggestions?

    This is the Chicago storm of a maybe a lifetime because of the winds and snow fall numbers. The sunbelt ain't as good as they would like us to believe. Their storms of a lifetime take the house with them.
