Does anyone know Ferrari's policy for buying new cars from dealers outside your geographic area? If so many others on Fchat could get on a list with little or no previous Ferrari purchases one would assume that it would only be fair to go out of state to do business with other dealers with larger inventories and allocations since my local dealer wants me to buy my third Ferrari or bentley to be moved up any future model lists.
Your dealer sounds like an epic ****. Unfortunately however FNA policy is that you must buy from dealer in your area only. Exception is when you live more than 150mi from closest dealer in which case you can buy anywhere.
Cali bought in December, 458 slot opened almost immediately (go figure)... Estimated June - Aug 458 Delivery - Rosso Corsa w/ Silver Brakes Calibers + 20 inch rims
That sounds like a bit of a scam. I would visit another dealer somewhere else (and use a friend's address if you need to). How people are getting cars in under a year is beyond me though.
Less than 6 months from initial contact to promised date of delivery at MSRP. Like I mentioned, I did buy a preowned F430 from them to enjoy in the mean time.
From what I can tell it seems to be a privilege to order a new Ferrari and dealers seem to give better service to established customers. I figured I would start a relationship with my dealer by purchasing an F430. We will see what happens when I buy a new one. I do live over 150 miles from a dealer, so I could shop around if I need to. Good luck, I hope you get your car soon......Steve
we had to buy a cali to get in line... estimate is late july but based on the final build having to be put in last week, im guessing it will come much quicker than that. Also is it normal for folks to have to put a deposit down? we were not asked to.
what is the "standard" deposit you guys are putting down? In Singapore it's 100k and although our selling price is significantly higher than most places, I think the higher deposit goes a long way to sorting out the serious buyers from the pretenders. That being said our dealer has taken A LOT of deposits on the 458 coupe & spider.
I specd mine in July, it arrived in December. But I didnt pay for air freight. My friend got his slot in March and the car arrived in July with air freight. So I am guessing build time is about 4 months.
Just placed my order last week. Ferrari confirmed that the estimated completion date for the build is April 20th. Ferrari then will test the car on the track before it is shipped. I will not have it air freighted to the US. Expected delivery date to me would be around Mid to late May. Thus there is about a 3 month build time and about a month to get it via boat versus air.
Hate to burst your bubble, but after spending a week in Maranello, I can tell you that NOT ONE 458 is "tested on the track". The cars come off the line and are parked next to the preship prep shop. Each car is then driven out the north entrance, Villa Trebbo, and onto the loop and then the highway,Villa Pedemontana, SP467 east of the factory. We didn't really keep track of how long the cars were out, but one model or another seemed to be leaving or returning every 15 minutes or so. Our contact at the factory told us "they just drive around on the highways and through town." The whole week we were there we only saw 2 F1 cars and one black 599 on the track. They drove the 599 for about an hour at a time and did it at least 3 times a day, everyday. Not one California or one 458 was ever on the track.
that is very disappointing! i wondered though why they even took them on the track when it states in the manual to spend i think 500 miles breaking the engine in. It als says dont take the engine above 4500 or so (cant remember again and im not searching through the manual)
Thanks for the comment. I always thought they gave them a "spin" on the track. My comment did not come from the dealer it was just what I thought. I guess I will have to break it myself!
I was told that they did track test for Challenge Stradale when I took delivery, and was told that they didn't do so on standard 360 Modena. (Not that any of it is true or untrue.) That I could just drive it when I took delivery. I still took it easy the first 150 miles or so. I assumed that the 458 wouldn't be as it is not a track model as Challenge Stradale. (I skipped the Scuderia) So I am following the 1000km break-in at below 5000 rpm per manual. Is is PAINFUL. It is PAINFUL. VERY PAINFUL. Almost done thought.
You could be dead or poor in 4 years... http://www.motorcars-intl.com/vehicle_details.aspx?id=1017&CAR=Ferrari-458-Italia
I think the 485's head lights make it look like A Japanese import, "Just my opinion" Not saying I would not own one just think they took away from the Italian styling of Ferrari/Pininfarina. would like to hear owners response.
Im Italian, and to everybody that is on a long waiting list, with a history or without with Ferrari. It help's to Know a guy who know's a guy, who know's a guy, that is a friend whit a guy, that has a brother in law that has a conection with the Ferrari dealer...Forgetaboutit.
My actual finish date was Oct.25 th. and I started with Red 10 status August 27th. Station to station actual build time on my 599 GTO was 8 weeks. Started the process with a written deposit on the car at MRSP in Nov.of 09. She arrived at my dealer Dec.of 010.........13 months.
I just talked to my dealer in Chicago and they said that I could get on the list for MSRP and the wait was 18-24 months at this time with $10K down. I just bought an F430 from them, so the wait is OK by me. If I did want one now, there are few available, and they are selling for over MSRP. For that money, I would like one optioned by me. In the mean time, a couple of years in an F430 won't suck .......Steve
