Just watched the unvail live. Looks great:)
Innovative is right! It looks really good and it'll be interesting to find out if it's fast too. All the best, Andrew.
The head-on view of the sidepods is what I've been trying to find to post. Didn't want to just do a screenshot of the 3D computer rendition. All the best, Andrew.
Pretty brave move, all of this car. http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/1945/mcl264.jpg http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/33/mcl265.jpg
More pics. May be very slow to load. http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2011/02/04/mclaren-mp4-26-launch-first-pictures/
That's a seriously mean looking car, especially from the front. The sidepods are awesome looking.... Chrome is also my favorite color....
Wow....what a gorgeous car. Their "shark fin" seems to be quite the departure from convention as well. Bring on Bahrain!
Very different indeed! They are sacrificing surface area under the sidepod inlets which normally have the barge boards flow the air around the body and to the rear wing, but with the sidepods being what they are now the barge boards aren't do nearly as much. Very interesting.
Wow - now that "looks" like a geniune effort at innovation. It will be interesting to see if it works but alt least it shows like no other launch this year. This is what I expected from the early start Mercedes had... instead they show up with a copy cat design devoid of any obvious creativity. While it may prove to be a faster car than this McLaren- props to the McLaren team for trying to push the envelope! Renault as well...the innovation rather than immitation is refreshing. It first I thought they built an upside down wing profile into the sidepods by scultping the bottom out and having the radiator flow slope up rather than down but it seems it was just the livery that fooled my eye. Very interesting.
Every since 2007 when mclaren unvailed its new livery I've thought its best looking car each year, others have come close but nothing has matched it, and this year is no exception for me.
My only curiouosity regarding their sidepods is that the mass of the units are towards the edge of the cars horizontal plane as are their radiators, and isn't that cause for concern with balance issues being that the gravity is no longer attempting to be 100% centered? I'm sure Mclaren knows what they are doing, but still.
This year we've got a silver car with green sides with a big Mercedes logo on it. We've got another silver car, but with red sides, also with a big Mercedes logo on it. We've also got a black Renault-Lotus and a BRG Lotus-Renault. -.-
I wonder if they have somehow counterbalanced it with other mechanical components? Possibly engine placement.
It is definitely a shade longer than the Ferrari Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Quite a complicated piece of sculpture that wing. I hope it works in the real world as well as it does in the computer.
