I got nothing against supercar rental .. I rented a 430 to drive the Monaco GP circuit a few years ago .. It's the manner in which they are being driven that I have an issue with.

Thats true that it is a great idea for marketing the car and creating exposure to the cars.

My issue is the same as Derek's. Its the manner that the car is driven that is the problem.

It should be done in a controlled environment so as to minimise any potential accidents to innocents or to public property.

I have seen exotic cars being driven recklessly too but it seems that the proportion of that is much lesser than those that drive responsibly.

Take a look for example at Subaru WRXes. I have been a fan for a long time. And to be honest, these cars can really handle well and push out really good horses. Its a great car. Thats why I had one.

WHen it first started out, it was a higly respected brand and was regarded as a good car etc...now because of many reckless drivers of WRXes outnumbering the responsible ones, the brand has been labeled as an AH Beng car which are irresponsible, reckless, tree wrapping etc......

Pertaining to the video, the manner as to how he was driving was wrong and that is what I meant by putting a stand to this. If a controlled environment where there are proper run offs, no poles, people etc are around, that would be a great marketing strategy. Like a test track. All is takes is one accident and the brand name for supercars will start taking a toll.

Aaahhh, I was thinking the same :)

Perhaps they can install that thing which we have in the SAF vehicles :D limiting it to 50km/h on public & 90 for highways.

That's why I buy em used or coed :D but to be honest, after sales service is one of the thing I look @ before buying into the brand or take calculated risk. Modern cars are good with 10K km servicing & a major is not as scary as 90s Ferraris anymore. I'm cool with taking without warranty as long as the saving is enough to buy you a whole lot of parts :D

I spent about $15K to drop the engine of my Testa including a host of other jobs with the final bill coming up to $45K in just a year+ & the car is worth only $145K so I am prepared to spend money on my cars. Bear in mind that $45K are jobs done & 3rd party workshops & not agents which might be more costly or perhaps cheaper but I like to get hands on & understand my cars better.

I just feel that what Lung has said is right about good for marketing and what has also been said that it is the irresponsible driving that is the issue here.

If we want marketing, Supercar rental is ok as most of the time, the driver has the car for a coupla days or even just 1 day, and there is no need for him to blast around all the time. He will cruise around, feel good about being stared at, and when there is the occasional empty road, he might just hammer the revs a bit more.

But when you are only given the car for 15-20mins, people wont wanna cruise in it for that time. They will want to experience the car to its fullest in that time. And this will cause them to do stupid things in that short time as they wanna feel the power etc.....they will want to make full use of the time and start to drive it fast. So if the road is packed, they will still try.

I am thinking that the best way for a 15-20min experience of a super car, get someone qualified to drive it for ya and if you want to drive it, rent it for a day. And then drive it responsibly.

    My 5cents.

Well, at least there's a "guide" on board though I doubt he has a 2nd brake pedal :D There's probably more jeopardy for an inexperienced driver who walks in & rent an exotic for a day or months.

I'm not too sure about it as a good marketing for the marque as anyone with $300 can have full controls of a Ferrari but taking a passenger ride by a trained driver on a designated route could be better.

C'mon guys who doesn't rev your sports cars' engines to red line once in a while? It's built for that.

Yeah, purely from biz sense of view, i doubt it they make much money...way too cheap considering all the risk that they are taking, not too mention putting their reputation at stake. And if im not mistaken, they only got 2 rides, so if they get an idiotic customer who crashes one the cars, I guess they can partially close shop for a few days liao since it would be pathetic to have only 1 car available for the tour.

Mate, you are more than welcome to join us. Just let me know when and will tee it up.

Neither can I. THIS IS THE CAR!!!! I will have to bide my time.... wait for the second hand market to exist on these babies in Singapore... then I will rob a bank (preferably Citi or BNPP) and do whatever it takes to get one. Black, with orange wheels please.

Why waste time. Just place deposit and BUY. Mate.... you know the 458 is just a stop gap!!!!

cocnerns here seem to premise on assumed likelihood of irresponsible driving.. but really, it's anyone's guess how sensible the firm is. anyway, i think they cheapen the marques. to draw a far cheaper parallel, this is like hailing a limo taxi to experience an e-class. we all know no one buys 'taxi-able' cars :D
