If you don't know what that is, no need to reply. Just curious... running here on 3 linux machines 100% duty cycle + Mac + Vista screensaver Is it all just a long-term waste of time in your opinion? Jedi
That's still running? Way back in the early days, I was in the top 100 for individuals for a while. My little datacenter eventually got overwhelmed by those with more firepower. Frankly, I think it's a waste of time. The odds that we're looking at just the right place on the spectrum at just the right time, and that we can make any sense of anything the hypothetical aliens are sending, is literally astronomical.
Berkeley expanded it with BOINC with more projects - the original S@H went defunct in 2005. I've done it off and on over the last 10 years.... probably going to dump the SETI project and put the power to some other more "meaningful" project (Berkeley now hosts dozens under BOINC). Jedi
I lost my password years ago; but I was a SETI@Home user between 2000-2005 +- on three computers... and sometimes dozens (I would install the software on the university computers in the library periodically... always removed every time I would check back) Considering the computing power at the time, I had a fair # of work units completed. I was looking for my data, but it seems their server is down for maintenance. Image Unavailable, Please Login
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=161484 It's been a while since I've used it... only 593.33 days of total computation. I guess I'm a little disappointed.
