Guard rail appears to have entered the front and exited the rear.

The copilot actually talked about what happened: They lost control, hit the guard rail and weren't concerned as they were just sliding along. Then there was a hole in the guardrail and when it started again, they hit it head-on and it came through the front of the car, the fire wall and right through the cabin. It was the guard rail that cut Kubica's arm in two locations, which was one of the reasons he lost so much blood and why they also were concerned that the blood supply to the hand was interrupted (it wasn't).

As with all these things you can say they were incredibly unlucky, that there was a section of guardrail missing. Or you can look at the video of the following car and say it is a miracle not more fatal accidents happen at these events.

Thanks; I thought I read they hit the wall of a church , which I couldn't figure out after watching the video.

Rally is the most dangerous of autosports IMO.
Too many variables and still with tube framed cars.

Lets hope the nerve structure of his hand is intact.

Grosjean IMO was an underated driver. Best of the available options and with Renault ties.
Renault does not need a pay-per-drive Senna/Petrov type now. With Kubi out they need a miracle but Kimi is the only miracle class driver. If and when he is motivated.

According to Australian news this was a road accident as he was driving to the start of the next stage, or the first stage or something.

If that is true (?) then he obviously was not obeying the laws of the road and this is a big no no when involved in motorsport as it gives out a very poor image to non-motorsport people. I myself have been told off for leaving scrutineering too enthusiastically once.

Praying for a perfect recovery but unfortunately this looks like the end of a F1 career :(.

This is not true, it happened on SS1 (Special Stage 1) of the event.

This Video shows the next car on the stage behind Robert, and the aftermath of the accident.

The tape of the car following him clearly shows he was in the race and this was a racing incident.

Well that would not be the first time the Australian news media got it very wrong.

I wouldn't blame the Australian news for this:

I have read the same story in several places too. As well as the opposite report, which said he was indeed in the stage.

Just as I read that his left arm/hand were injured as opposed to the right.

Depends on whom you want to believe from the reports at the time: When Peterson entered the hospital he was basically back to "normal vitals". Lots of broken bones (both legs smashed) and burns but nothing immediately life threatening. The next morning he was dead killed by multiple embolies caused by fat globules.

I remember at the time how several doctors said that the operating team was going for too many less relevant problems in the first night. So I was relieved to see that in Kubica's case the surgeons triaged the problems and focused on the hand. Then put him into a coma and let him rest. And the less threatening fractures will be dealt with at a later time when everything else is more stable.

Kimi won't be back, and those who wish he would won't let it go.

He probably got some driving advice from Vitaly before the race...

    It makes perfect sense.
    Renault probably will be competitive.
    They need a #1 driver.
Kimi only wants a competitive drive and under his terms.

Actually its a perfect match other than the verbal "misunderstanding" earlier last year.

My take as well, Kimi would be the best fit of available talent pool imo...not sure if the logistics would work out...or do I really mean ego? ;)

I hope Renault is quick to confirm substitute driver arrangements as soon as possible so that we can get off this Kimi idea. The guy might have been fast in his day, but he is not a team player, and he doesn't understand the current F1 regs. Hulk would be a far better proposition.
