That is probably the nastiest wreck that I've ever seen! where was this unfortunate accident?

 

Looked very survivable though, rear end hit the trees, capsule ok, then a fire

 

But what is that in the road???

 

People don't realize how squirrely a 360 can get if you're pushing it especially on a slick road. Plus you've got about a 60% chance it's going up in flames if you hit something. Hope they got out. It's always assumed to be the driver's fault but not when you see so many spinning out of control then bursting into flames.

 

Good question. I'd say it's a piece that flew off when it exploded into flames upon impact into the trees. If so, the occupants didn't have a chance.

 

Every time I really got into my 360, just having fun, I'd get to the ragged edge and could feel the thing wanting to break loose. Much, much happier in a 430.

 

That sends chills up my spine.

 

This is on Wrecked Exotics. It says two people were injured. It happened in the Netherlands.

I think this is survivable if you can get out before the fire engulfed the car. Certainly looks terrible though.

 

The first picture was the wheel broken into bits and the tire rubber is melted, it looks like you can see the steel belt from where the rubber melted or that may be the lip of the rim. You can also make out a few spokes of the rim.

Terrible accident, makes me think twice when hitting speed.

 

What makes the 360 so prone to going up in flames?

 

When you hit so hard that you rip the engine out of the car, wouldn't say fire is unexpected, not matter what car you're driving.

 

I sure hope the passengers are ok. From the looks of that crash I would venture to say they may be in pretty bad shape. Just a reminder of how we need to respect the machine.

 

Yeah, cracks me up when I'm talking to the sales guys, Maserati mostly, about safety and they stress that their approach is centered around collision avoidance.

 

Rear saddle fuel tanks, there are two one on the driver’s side and one on the passenger side with a bypass between them as well as the fuel feed lines. When you have a violent crash and these components are separated you have excessive fuel leaks add high exhaust and engine temps and you get a fire. Front engine cars have the obvious engine in the front fuel tanks in the rear, while fires can and do happen you are less likely to have one in a standard vehicle, unless it's a violent crash where you seperate fuel lines. Fires suck! I’ve seen cars burn to the ground on the Dyno due to AN fittings & braided fuel lines improperly installed and it’s bad!!! Always have a properly regulated extinguisher with you or around you if possible.

I pray these people are ok to live and drive another day.

 

The hot cats are under the engine. Any kind of fuel compromise and spill onto the cats sends it up. Porsche has the cats off to the sides and Mercedes for example use expensive titanium to cool the cats. F do neither that's why you see so many catching fire.

 

It's to a point where the 360 handling is flawed and it wasn't until the 430 that they improved the serious over steer. Most wrecks you see in 360's are due to over steer that becomes almost impossible to correct once it goes to far.

 

Seriously sad for the occupants and car. Makes me think that the Capristo heat wraps are a good idea for every 360/430. What changes did they make to the 430 that reduced the terminal oversteer? Certainly will make me think twice about any mod that would dial out understeer.

Hope the occupants survived and are ok. Ouch...

 

I got my 360 spider after having a 997TT. Needless to say, transitioning from all wheel drive to a mid engine rear wheel drive was an eye-opener. Stupidly, one morning I tried to drift through a turn and was rudely made aware of the tendency to "oversteer." 360 in a 360! Fortunately, I stayed on the road and away from anything else. One of those lessons learned! I had great respect for that car following that!

 

WOW! Hope the passengers are ok. The car can be replaced. Worst wreck I've ever seen!

 

Is the 360 that bad to drive compared to the 430?

I thought the 360 was so much better than the 355?
