hello i just realized i failed to do this earlier.....better late...as they say! long time lurker, mostly just been absorbed in working for these past years, career and such long time tifosi, and gear head in general my Ferrari passion began early with my general sports car interest.....my (late) uncle taught me carpentry and home building.....but he also had a 1982 308 GTS, which he did some of his own minor work on, oil changes and other minor maintenance because of my mechanical inclination, and building my own cars/engines, he would call me up to come "help" him do some maintenace = me doing the work while he talked i got to drive it several times......and it permenently burned "Ferrari" into this lads brain!! i've had a few sports cars since then, built a few cars of my own, rebuilt the engines etc. though not a F-car yet (but i will!) currently i have an xjs 5.3 he v12 in the garage getting a do over, and replace the floor boards.....maybe a fresh paint as well before summer comes? as one R&T man once said....."everyone should own and drive a V12 car once in thier life" anyways, being slowest part of the year (work wise) and the holidays allowed me to return to something i haven't done for several years, that being graphic art work + cars (Ferrari in particular)! it's so odd, but i never combined the two for other then sketches of my own? so please be nice, as i wade back into the practise of it again LOL so if it's okay, i'm going to post up some pics as ongoing here for sharing here are the 2 initial pieces started over christmas.....yes, i do my rough sketches in red ball-point, weird, but hey! LOL starting size is 11x17" and next steps will be more refined line drawings, then colored to complete i don't personally like to trace or grid copy from pictures, but i will use a few pictures to give me reference for my sketches the first one is of the fabulous 599 GTO, the second is of F1 Bahrain theme.....they will make more sense once color is added into the open panels & spaces peace Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
only 120 posts late LOL thanks, i'd like to keep posting as they come along.....these are initial rough sketches, so far from finished result i was always the kid scribbling cars on every piece of paper i got hold of, but i confess that i don't have the formal training of some likely the mennonite-brethern church we grew up with still has some hymn books with Ferraris scribbled along the margains LOL
update on the 599 GTO piece......the colors aren't exactly as i intended, would like them with more deliniation, and fix the light source of the car body, so i'm going to do 1 or 2 more testers yet these are initial colorings, using ink & acrylic (is why brush strokes visible in photos), finished piece i'll finish smoother Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
another color test......this of course is of Ferrari F1, theme is Bahrain........this is not the finished result, just a coloring on top of the initial sketch......so next is to do the 'clean' line drawing, then finish coloring..........not complete, but is close to finish desired! thanks Uro it's supposed to represent the "heat haze" that comes off the track........so from bottom up, goes from symmetry (even tight wave behind lettering) to random, with 'heat haze' then the sky behind & above of course being back lit, the car has to be dark as result and of course in the finished version, i'l correct the rear wing (should be white) LOL i'd enjoy doing something with a 246 dino......got any intersting pictures? cheers
I like the little dots that look like dirt being spewed from the track. I'll have to look thru my Dino pics. does that say something in Arabic?
oh, yes tire and dirt debris......it's harder to make a front or rear on view in motion LOL yes, the script is arabic is "Bahrain"
lots of views? another update, some color test panels of the Bahrain piece, and another variation of the 599 GTO in profile Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
sure like the p4/5c project, like everyone i suppose, but would enjoy doing a nice drawing of it in action...maybe? just some rough idea sketches.....hmm? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
.....a lazy sunday afternoon, doodled out a B&W variation of the 599 GTO in profile.....cross-hatching on the body, with contour lines, but i might do another variation of this, with same background and a colored body?? Just saw this work Garnet. Very nicely executed. I find it interesting to see the transformation from sketch to finished project. PDG
^^ thanks grayta, i'm enjoying getting back into art again, of course forever being a 12 year old, what other subject material then Ferrari LOL here is another variation based on the same wire frame, with different color selection, and light source direction, done in copec marker and pencil.....colors chosen of course for fun! decided to re-do the line frame somewhat, changed some contours and made corrections that i had noticed...changed direction of light source again, and sharpened it up overall.....also drew in my version of campos....then played with line weight and emphasis....i'll use this to make a classic rossa with gold campos variation... ...3rd pic is just fun with computer Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
another sunday, so another piece done LOL colorized the improved base drawing in more classic rosso corsa and gold campos, and change of light source direction.....not sure these digi pics capture the subtle variations in the coloring? .....i'll have to try and figure a way to scan them in used a heavier stock paper, which has slightly to smooth of a surface (won't use it again), but pics show how the color has to be built up in multiple layers (washes) to get the right effect (brush strokes visible = traditional painted look)....trouble was how to have a hand-brushed look, but yet sharp lines/detail? enjoy Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
decided i wasn't to happy with the red variation, so will re-do.....so back to the base drawing, and grey scaled it in....next apply colors.....i'll try again in rosso, maybe a blue also? before i conclude this 246 dino, slow down and practise on techniques better.....the inverted looks kool hmm...it's blowing snow outside, what better to head off to work in LOL ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
thanks mate.....it's cathardic for me, in time when i have available......but as they say, "practise, practise, practise" LOL
more practising....this is last one of the 246 Dino set, i wasn't entirely happy with the red variation, so cleaned up drawing and done in nice blue ...i'm going to have to get a larger scanner, because these digi pics seem to be leaving a lot of fine detail out?
