360 F1 CLUTCH OVERHEAT PROBLEM

Hi i have a 360 F1 year 2000 i have the clutch overheat buzzer going off . it has had a clutch fitted about 5000 miles ago had it in ferrari 3 weeks ago for service they reset pis to 4.9 it was 6.2 which was high. Changed f1 fluid and gearbox oil everything has been ok for 200 miles. They did tell me i had a stored fault in clutch position sensor and clutch is 34% worn. It was driving nice when i collected it now gone really jerky again. could this be the clutch position sensor? or clutch or a combination of both? many thanks gary

 

Very often faults are missed at the diagnosis stage or a new clutch is badly set up when fitted. The wear index should be reset when a clutch is replaced. Just altering the PIS is meaningless if the rest of it isn't right, as it uses this measurment as a starting point to calculate PIS. What year is the car? Early control units for the F1 use an auto-set for PIS which isn't very good. Very often people set them up with the SD2 in standalone mode and don't bother doing a cycle test, which results in all sorts of issues. Was anything else changed besides the clutch? A sticky clutch cylinder (very common) will cause clutch slip and trash a clutch to that degree in such a short time. If the clutch was changed and not the flywheel, and the flywheel was worn you can end up trashing the clutch also. Personaly, i always recommend replacing the cylinder and sensor when i change a clutch, as well as removing the flywheel and measuring the wear and taper, at the very least.

 

Hi thanks for your response the previous owner had the clutch throw out bearing and flywheel replaced. It is a 2000 with early TCU. The first problem i had was overheat buzzer and then f1 light flashed up once briefly. then whent into ferrari they adjusted P.I.S and changed gearbox oil and F1 system oil and bleed the system. It drove very well for 200 miles Now i have overheat buzzer going off. But i have not seen the F1 light thanks Gary

 

Boy that's the truth.

A friend of mine just got his '01 360 F1 back from a shop that replaced the clutch. Poor shifting, smell of burning clutch (plus smoke), bad performance in "sport" mode, etc. Obviously this was cause for concern, but the shop kept telling him not to worry about it -- so, he sent it up to a Dealer who bled the system and ran through a cycle test. Now, everything is working correctly

It is scary that there are guys out there replacing clutches in these cars when they don't understand how they need to properly set things up after installation

 

Using an early TCU is just beating a dead horse. You need a 195399 or later TCU.

The earlier versions are not even worth reflashing.

it might be realted to some kinda congestion in gearbox.. check the fluid and the mount...
