Watched the episode last night - it was really good! Amazes me how much
Clarkson is allowed to thrash on expensive cars he doesn't own :D

was great but it was unfortunate that they cut out one whole section and filled it with 10 mins of commercials and previews of crapy vampire show

Did they film anything with the Aerial Atoms at VIR? I'm hoping they did additional filming that will show up later in the season.

    Allowed to?

I assume they beg him to. I can only imagine the marketing budget of Mercedes but having Jeremy slide one around and hit a few bumps is probably as cheap as it gets for that kind of exposure.

Brian...they did not. Someone (private owner) had an Atom there early in the morning, but was gone by 10:30 - 11:00AM. The format for the day was 'hand selected' drivers on course from ~ 8:30AM - 10:30AM...this was to film the cars on track when the TG guys emerged from thier VIR "hotel room". There were about 20-25 cars on track including a couple of vehicles from the BMW Performance Driving School.

The hand-selected drivers exited the course around 10:30AM and then Jeremy, James, Richard took to the track until ~ 5PM.

I know there's a later episode of TG-UK where they make mention of the Ariel Atoms @ VIR.

Every single time Jeremy came through Turn 1 (I would assume other turns as well...), he power slid the Merc...smoke every single time. They mounted new tires that morning and I know he chewed through a new set of rear tires that day because they were giving the Merc new shoes that afternoon.

I watched it last night on Apple TV. No commercials.

It kinda makes me sad that they portray NC as a bunch of inbred/backcountry morons. :(

I have driven past that Wilkesboro speedway a million times, and always wondered how bad the decay inside had become. Now I know.

Confession: I've never watched Top Gear before. I suspect I might not watch it again. What an odd show.

The comment was tongue-in-cheek - hence the :D.... just makes me cringe seeing
a beautiful expensive car get spun through the rough while tearing a $2000 tire
(or whatever it costs) practically off the rim ... from the perspective of a "Joe F-Chat" guy.
    That's all.

The episode was not as good as most; they are generally quite entertaining. I did like seeing VIR featured; however, I do wish they had included a little more material from there.

I watched it on Youtube a while ago. If you can't take a fair amount of American bashing, Top Gear probably would not be enjoyable. But once you get past that, it is highly entertaining and definitely the best produced car show around.

You know, it appears the three Top Gear hosts genuinely like each other. I thought it was another great episode. You have to understand the humour. The mayor of Wilkesboro was awesome.

What you see on-camera is the way they behave off-camera. Even when they weren't filming, Jeremy, James, and Richard acted the exact same way...laughing, joking, and genuinely good guys.

In my opinion, a much better show than Top Gear, USA...I still watch the UK version, but won't watch the US version (boring!)
