It was a big day today. I put a deposit down today to reserve a production spot for a 2012 McLaren MP4-12C after deciding it was the better option than waiting for the 458 Spider. I know that I'm taking a leap of faith but after comparing the specs of the current 458 and the 12C the 12C wins by a pretty wide margin and the price will end up pretty much in the same ballpark with options. Barring a Delorean type disaster, the McLaren should hold value better than the F car, but I'd be interested to hear from fellow F Chatters.

I'm planning on keeping the F360 Spider so it's not like I'm cheating, or is it?

Where did you order it? Did they sell it for Msrp?

They gave a dealership to my Porsche dealer in Philadephia (Porsche of the Main Line). MSRP for the base model is $227k before options, transportation, etc. They won't have options pricing for another few months but they say the first allocations will be shipping in August his year. i'm assuming that date is probably ambitious, but we'll see. I'm pretty psyched to say the least. I'm probably looking at $300k with the way my build sheet looks.

That is a good question. I plan on bringing it out to Utah right after delivery and that thought did cross my mind. I believe they have dealerships committed in both Vegas and SF, but I am hoping Steve Harris in SLC can look after it since they do a great job with my 360. It would suck to have to ship it out of town for every issue.

I honestly didn't get any warranty information from them yet. No details about warranty terms were mentioned in the Welcome Package I was sent today so I guess those details are still pending. the dealer network seems pretty set with Philadelphia being one of the last ones to fill out their roster for the US. Again, this is somewhat of a leap of faith.

Will you be keeping it in Park City or back east near the dealership?

Nevermind, already answered my question. Congrats.

    Very nice!!
I hope you don't get a bad experience with warranty like my brother did with Aston Martin. He bought a brand new DB9 back on 2006, the car was very sharp but imagine what? He forgot to ask about the warranty and he had to ship the car from Puerto Rico to Miami for services. Bad taste when he spent 278k for it!
    Just my two cents!
    Again, Congrats!!!

Fortunately, Vegas is a a little cheaper to ship to from Park City than PR is to Miami, but point well taken.

Porsche of the Main Line is only 10 minutes from my house. Sucks you have to come out here to pick it up. If you need anything from there drop me a line.

With respect to service, I believe McLaren intends to have it's "flying doctors" available for those who are far from the dealers. They will come to you.

What engine specs made it to production? How about the tranny? Just remember it being a TT, but that's it. And yes, that car will be a lot more exclusive than an F-car, no doubt. Reliability? That's going to be a gamble, for sure. Good luck.

    Many congratulations.

Had a trip round the factory in September last year. Wonderful facility. Great to see the 12c cars (pre-production) under construction. Attention to detail superb. Had about an hour of sitting in, around, asking questions of McLaren staff. They started a couple of the cars up for a sound test as they came off the line. (no pictures I'm afraid).

Great to see all the old F1 cars lined up as well - and then the greatest car there - the Orange F1 road car, it was to die for!

Here is the "Welcome Package" they gave me yesterday. I still can't believe I pulled the trigger yesterday, and now I need to figure out the best way to break the news to the wife...
