I am new here and just getting to this post. I did not want to read all 41 pages so forgive me if this is a repeat request. Add a Car Wash/Detail thread. Not everybody here can work on their cars but I bet 90% wash and wax their own cars. People can share tips on washing/waxing, interior & exterior, engine detailing, what products they find to be useful or worthless etc. Share the name of a great detail service or car wash in their area... Just a thought.
Back when I first joined (2001), Ferrari Chat used to be a place for world wide owners to trade stories, resources, hints, etc. Now it seems that the majority of the Fchat community are non-owners, kids and dreamers that have no real relevant input other than taking up band width. I can't count the number of 'experts' who don't own (and never have owned) a Ferrari, who have been members for 1-3 years, with 10K+ posts. I wouldn't hang out in a BMW forum, if I didn't own a car and have something relevant to add. AMG has the 'AMG Private Lounge', that one must prove ownership before you can join and post. I would limit membership to owners, but I guess when one is trying to sell subscriptions and advertising, it is all about the numbers.
It would be great when you are quoting someone if you could "click" the quote (i.e Originally Posted by Rob Lay) and return to the original post, as quite often comments are made out of context and you have to scroll back to the original quotation in order to understand the response.
you have a valid point from an Ferrari owners perspective. from the FerrariChat admin perspective it has little to do with traffic, FerrariChat allowed "enthusiasts" from Day 1 when this was my hobby to ESCAPE from work, now it is my full time work, but policies haven't changed. actually over the years the opposite has happened where we haven't made it easier to get in FerrariChat.com, but we have made it tougher to access private areas like Silver, Rossa, and the Owners Forum. Silver and Rossa still allow non-owners, but the commitment by those users filters out those that aren't serious. The owners forum is only for confirmed current owners. there are more "enthusiasts" on FerrariChat with 85k users now, but there are also more "owners" and "prior owners". also over the years we have attracted significant collectors, more of the vintage owner crowd, international historians, and the major Ferrari related businesses. the average quality of users now is much higher than early on.
speaking of the owners forum, how do I get access? I've vouched for fellow owners in Singapore before but haven't got access myself. Do I need to get the likes of Lung7707, SFchallenge & Kopiokosong to send pm's to someone saying they've seen me tearing it up in my 430, coz we don't have a local moderator?
That is interesting and different from my (and some others) experiences. Whenever I am in a thread and someone is giving an 'expert' opinion, I take a look at their profile and the majority of the time, under 'personal Ferrari's', it invariably states.... N/A, not yet, soon, does 1/18 scale count, or some such similar statement. With 85K users (well done), and a limited number of cars, having only owners would be fiscally a poor decision. Ferrari's have always been a dream to aspire to for many car guys, and I suppose it is nice to have a place to share that enthusiasm, even if you don't have a car or any relevant input, but such is the world of the internet. There may be more owners than ever before who are members, however, I would bet that if you arbitrarily pick 10 threads at random, 1/2 of the posts will be from non-owners without much to say of any importance. I understand where you are coming from, but I am just expressing (as I usually do) , what others generally think, but won't say. What does one have to do to get into the 'owner's area'?
Are you implying that BH0 is influenced by corporations? He was elected before the ruling. So how did that happen? Three years ago libs told us that GWB was owned by big oil and that BH0 was clean as the wind driven snow. How do you explain BH0's actions and what does your comment have to do with the exploding budget? Kai
I tend to use links to direct people to relevant threads and comments I've seen posted by actual owners. I try to make it very clear that I'm not an owner and am merely referring people to information provided by others that I recall as an enthusiast. I sincerely hope I am not one of the contributors that has been irritating you and duly apologise if I have been. Wrong thread, Kai? All the best, Andrew.
You can. Click on the little blue arrow right after the Originally Posted by Rob Lay and it'll link you back. All the best, Andrew.
D'oh... slow response by me. I was browsing in tabs and the thread hadn't updated. All the best, Andrew.
this board-software should be able to have pictures and text passages alternating... especially important for "how to" tutorials or the like f.e.: 10/20 pics in one thread ...interrupted by the possibility of explaining text in between should be o.k. before having to start the next post why hasn´t this been installed long ago ?
No, you do not offend me. It's also not the fact that there is more input from non owners. It's the fact that many from this faction have nothing to say of any critical relevance... and at the end of the day, nothing on a car forum 'offends' me. There have just been changes in the demo over the years that have been 'interesting'. I find myself sifting through more nonsense in order to find something of some relevance in a thread. How many threads are there about, "What do you do for a living?", "What do you use your car for", "The cost of ownership", or the ever popular people who profess that they are 'ready to pull the trigger', ask a zillion questions that have been answered a thousand times and never, ever buy anything. It is human nature to dream and want to be part of a group. Hell, I spent far more years than I care to admit pressing my nose against exotic car dealer's windows and following the rare Ferrari or Lamborghini just to hear the sound. I just doubt that I would have made allot of noise unless I had something real to say..... but that's how the anonymity of the internet works.
I also understand what you are saying, and I am somewhat guilty of the things you dread. On the other hand, I do a TON of reading on the model-specific threads here, and I seldom post on those for the simple reason that I am not an owner. Oh sure, if someone asks a specific car-model related technical question I MAY post a link to somewhere I have read a related forum on that question, but not very often. I would say a lot of us CAN buy one, and based on what we read here we now know what to look for and what to avoid. That is good for the marque - you don't want a bunch of people buying your make and not knowing a thing about it, and in turn, causing nothing but trouble because they didn't know a 308 needs a major once in awhile, or buying one not knowing it needs one. If you don't like the chit-chat forums - and it sounds like those are the ones you loath - simply don't go there. And, you cannot limit the subscribership to owners only, and besides, I know enough about certain models that I COULD list ownership of a model or two and none would be the wiser. BTST I like NFL football, I post on other NFL Football websites, but I never played the game nor have I owned a team. Hopefully you don't judge people, friends, by the brand of clothes or watch they wear as well.
nope, not only does it clutter and add overhead to the posting page, but then users would use it more often. it is there if you want to work at it, but overall we should keep the FerrariChat look and flow clean. Keep letting the competition have ads everywhere, flash graphics and colors, and huge animated image signatures.
I know it's picking nits, but... If the following example link set, always seen in the top header of the page could be repeated at the bottom of the page, we wouldn't have to scroll back to the top for further navigation. FerrariChat.com > General Forums > Ferrari Discussion (not model specific) How would you make FerrariChat.com better?
I can't do exactly what you are asking for easily Bill, but see if you like what I did add. It actually does more than the straight navigation at top, so you can one click to ANY forum.
