I don't mind paid service, looking to upload all of Mia's pics for family. A few GB's, private access for family only, and ability to organize photos into folders. Extra bonus would be photo printing and other photo services tied in.

    Thanks,
    rob

Maybe Smugmug.com? You should be able to set-up password protected albums and I know they do prints. I almost used them, but they don't allow much customization for commercial sites, but from what I've heard they're good.

use your own server space, and buy the photostore software. Fully php and customizable.

http://ktools.net/photostore/index.php <-- no need to phisically sell photos, but you can easily make a private members area, and store hi-res, and create automated systems to print professionally etc.

I like flickr a lot, and the pro account does all those things you ask for.

    Picasa Web.

Does everything you want for free. Coupled with Picasa at your end you'll never have a more organized photo library - Especially if you let it's face detection thing work it's magic - It's almost scary good!

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Flickr.

Very simple to use. You would like Kali said, need a Pro account (24.95 a year) to upload more than a certain GB or MB of photos.

The Private features you can set to Private ((where only you can see them)which you aren't after) but you can list Only You & select either your Friends or Family:

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

If it's something you want your family & friends to see as well, I believe they would need a Flickr account and add you as a contact & both of you would have to mark each other as Family or Friends. More information regarding privacy:

    http://www.flickr.com/help/privacy/

Flickr uses Snapfish for their printing and allows lots of variety.

Can't just burn to DVD and mail them? May be easier and faster then uploading gigabytes of data

Dropbox, whilst not a pure photosharing site, actually works well for this. 2Gb on a standard free account. As long as you don't put the photos in the public area, they can only be accessed from a specific URL link, (not really guessable) which you send to the people who want to view them.

Dead easy to use as you just drag and drop the photos in the folder on your computer and it syncs in the background.

I've been a Photobucketeer since May 2007. Have 1515 files spread around ~25 albums, about 200mb out of 10gb limit used.

It's free, fairly easy to navigate, others don't have to register to view, can set folders to private, can upload vids, view stats, etc.

The only thing you can't do it use [IMG]

Webshots isn't bad either. I've used flikr, webshots, and photobucket. I even tried kodak gallery a few years back.

Flikr is probably the most popular and one of the easiest to use to be honest.

    giving Photobucket a try.

user friendly and pro not very expensive.

I especially don't like how during upload you can't open up another application or even another browser window or it pauses.

Beyond that the bulk upload tool errors out and I was required to get latest version of Flash for organize tab, which was nightmare because Adobe is the least user friendly site even though I have their $2,000 CS5 package.

Rob, you should use Flickr. Ash pretty much explained it above. I have all 4,857 of my pictures spread across 33 different sets (or albums), and then those 33 sets are spread across 4 collections (compilation of sets).

There are also some cool apps for Flickr, including a Flickr Uploadr app, which is a bulk uploader. It's very easy to use and I have had no issues with it. It even lets you edit the picture information before you upload it. It is a seperate program, and does not run in your browser.

As already stated, you need to go Pro. You will only have 100MB to upload each month unless you go Pro.
