Where's the ah hmm.."Exoticism" Ferrari belongs to or used to be? Why can't they just stick with the original concept of what a real Ferrari should be, let say Testarossa or …

Well, I am lost for words, I know people worship Ferraris and even if they make ****ty cars, there are fans who will support it…

still, very dissappointed at where the company is going with all these front engine whatevers

Are you saying that anyone who owns a 550, 612, 599, Califorina ,or FF have bad taste or maybe we should just rip the Ferrari emblems off them,lol....Sorry I just feel slighted since I own a 599..

I actually disagree, the 550 and 575 range all looks great today, the shape has really aged very well and looks very graceful and exotic. Due to the FF is think the 612 will really start to be appreciated a lot more than it is now, I saw a yellow one last weekend and yes yellow isnt perhaps the best colour but it still looked superb.

 

I am not here to piss people off. Personally I just won't pay a pretty penny for any front-engine Ferrari. PERIOD!

I somehow agree with you, I do not dislike the 550/575/599/California as much as the 612 & FF.

550 is to replace 512TR, I just don't like the way Ferrari gone front engine, they should have continued the 12-cylinder mid-engine set up on the 550. The 456 does look better than 612 dispite its pop-up headlights. 599 just don't look exotic enough that's why I bought a 12 cylinder Lambo.

Testarossa~512TR, 308~328~348~355~360~430~458 & 288GTO~F40~F50~Enzo have the pure Ferrari-Look IMHO. Hope you people understand what I am trying to say.

 

The very first Ferrari was a front engined V12, the MR layout didn't come until years later. Ferrari have always sold 4 seaters, they are for a completely different market/customer than the mid engined supercars.

 

I have owned three mid engine Ferrari cars. Starting from a 1990 Ferrari Testarossa. My second Ferrari was a 1992 512TR. My Third Ferrari was a 1995 F512M.
I have moved on to a 2007 599 GTB. I some what understand your dislike of having a front engine Ferrari. I too had to come to terms with my self in purchasing a 599 and fully understanding the basic concept of the front engine ferrari.


Lets start with the concept. First if I was to compare my Testarossa to the newer Ferrari
I think as far as design the testarossa is a work of art. If judging from a engineering view the newer ferrari are the way to go. My Testarossa were all fun to drive. I just did not feel confident behind the wheel when taking sharp turns or exiting the corners. You have to be very alert just in case the rear slips away from you. Since there are no computer aids to help you. Also, Ferrari decided to end the MID FLAT 12 in 1995. The reason Ferrari eneded the mid 12 engine.Well the engineers could not crank out any more power from the motor. Really there was nothing more Ferrari can accomplish from it. I really like the 599 GTB. I have driven a paddle 2007 599 GTB. The car is extremly powerful and plenty of GRIPE on the turns you can drive hard on the corners. The computer aids do there part and you do your part. I also like the mid front engine on the 599. The weight balance is near perfect almost 50/50 balance. The design is not raw like a Testarossa but shaped more like a bullet. If you like the mid engine cars you can buy a testarossa or any of the mid engine flat 12. I would suggest you drive the 599 GTB, Best of all the service will not burn a hole in your pocket. You will have more fun driving then worrying about where or if the car is going to break down. Hope this helps out.

I'll reserve judgment on the FF until I see it in person.

 

Maybe it is just me but I see where the OP is coming from.

Exotic - Synonyms: bizarro, fantastic (also fantastical), glamorous (also glamourous), marvelous (or marvellous), outlandish, romantic, strange

I drive the 612 to work and to meetings - it fits in enough that I feel comfortable .. the 458 IMO defines exotic in the 2011 line up.

Engineering Performance and sound - all exotic ... Ferrari is trying to widen their appeal so in hopes to sell more the exotic exterior will be sacrificed. The new hard top convertibles are another example.

After reading the synonym again - FF isn't so far off

Or 275, 330, 365. There are quite a few more, most being even earlier than these cars

You're certainly eliminating a lot of Ferraris from consideration, and not just those made after the mid-ninety's.

The original concept of a Ferrari road car was front engined. PERIOD. 125 S.

Ferrari did not develop a rear engined car until much later and with some reluctance. I think Enzo said something to the effect of "the horse doesn't push the cart with it's nose, it pulls the cart."

But Ferrari made the switch to rear engined cars because racing and winning was what mattered most. I don't think Enzo Ferrari was sentimental about his cars. He wanted to win and was willing to make design and engineering changes to stay ahead.

 

I've made my point. Looks like some of the die-hard front engine Ferrari fans are freaking out. Just got a email from Ferrari.com regarding to the FF today. How ironic is that.

You were wrong in saying that the original concept of a Ferrari is a mid-engined car like the Testarossa. We understand that you don't like front engined cars, but we also understand that you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the original concept of what a Ferrari should be.

 

This is just typical of youth of today. You come here with no background knowledge, no experience, not even basic understanding of what you are discussing. And to top it off, you have an attitude.

Why not try educating yourself, at least in the area that you appear to have some interest, and then show some respect for the others in the room?

By Testarossa, I assume you are NOT referring to the "original" 250 Testa Rossa, you know... the front engined V12 car.

When a new member comes on the board and doesn't have their facts straight, then yes that does resemble troll-like behavior.

If you hate the FF for being a front engined shooting brake I'd love to hear your opinion on the Breadvan, assuming you're familiar with it. After all it was built before the original Ferrari concept, the Testarossa.
