Just wanted to point out the irony of this post. On the Non ferrari sites - CH is being considered a hero. On Fchat He is considered a goat.

Interesting. Do you feel the same way about Catholics, Women, and stray dogs?

However, I do not want to rehash something already discussed. I seldom read all the threads or follow controversy.

Incidentally, regarding your airbound gas expulsion, I own a Ferrari and a Corvette, so am probably only half worthy.

We all have to be something (no shame there).

On a more serious note, take a look at my Corvette Forum Thread about buying a McLaren, 458, or ZR1. A very interesting Mclaren presentation. The bottom line, Ferrari has soul...

    Geez... like I'm surprised?

And if he said this about Chevy or Porsche I'm sure they would still stand up and cheer.

I didn't say he's a goat. I said what he's done is issue a rant that is misdirected. That's not being a goat. That's just being unfair to the bigger picture.

A goat would have been we disagree with the idea of manipulation of reviewers or that it's OK.

We don't. What we disagree with is that he's singled out one manufactorer without any specifics. IF he made a general thread and included Ferrari with other specific examples, maybe we would feel differently.

He's no whistle blower. A whistle blower would have done some investigation and given evidence, interviews, and specifics of wrongdoing. Wrongdoing that in fact he has been part of for many years by his own admission.

No, he's not a hero and he's not a goat. He's a bomb thrower. Bomb throwers post rants on the internet.

He is in a sense-- a bit pathetic.

We have to ask who benefits from CH's blog rant?

In the following order they are:

    1. McClaren -- the timing of this article, from a British journalist, no less, could not have been better

    2. Porsche

    3. Nissan, Lambo, etc.

Remember when we all used to read Car and Driver? That was back when I was 15 until I realized it was basically one long book of ads, some of them disguised as tests...

Well Evo, Car, etc are no different than the old C&D, the difference is one of degree not of nature. The "tests" they run are hardly scientific or intellectually honest.

When you pick up these magazines, it's best to look at them as long advertisements/amusements.

And I would be very curious to learn CH's motives for releasing this rant at this time very glaringly omitting the sins of other manufacturers....

I don't think Ferrari will respond to this, mainly because they don't need to. Like Harris says the press wants to drive these new Ferrari's due to the large fanbase which watches the (youtube)video's. Harris will be off the list as he points out already.

If this is the way Ferrari is taking care of their press cars then it's a laugh. Yet the beauty of the cars is something I value higher than the marketing machines at Ferrari.

Frankly, the looks of the FF upset me more than this rant by Chris Harris. Ferrari can supply the press with a 458 that has a 599 engine in it and I wouldn't mind, so long as they stick to making beautiful cars that are fun to drive.

I'm a bit bleary eyed from reading this thread in one sitting but a couple of things occur to me.
Car mags aren't journalism nor are they primarily entertainment. They are advertising delivery devices.
The idea that anything as complex as an automobile, particularly a Ferrari, can be summed up by a set of numbers is naive.
Despite this we take comfort in and gain assurance from numeric values rarely questioning how important what they're measuring is.
This reminds me of the old days of Hi-Fi product tests where the measurements were so massaged as to be meaningless. Or more recently the mega-pixle count in digital cameras.
That Ferrari or any other automaker should try to "optimize" these outcomes is dishonest but they swim in the same water as all of their competition.
As was pointed out early in this thread it is the subjective aspects of these cars that make the difference and that is the toughest part for a writer to communicate. Another reason that so many second raters take refuge behind numbers.
