    I was witness to greatness this evening at Taos, NM. This Bombardier Global Express did a 3k foot turn off.

    Thrust reversers are a wonderful thing to have. Especially for a high altitude (7095'), high density altitude, relatively short field (5800') landing.

    Global Express is an unbelievable short field airplane. Of course, most short fields don't have taxiways that can accommodate it. It has very low Vref speeds-- I believe under 110 knots at typical weights, and maybe even closer to 100 knots.

    Great, reminds me of the time they snuck in a 737 at our local GA airfield. The runway is some 4000ft... it was a final resting place for the 737 as it was donated for use by one of the Universities.

    I wonder if anyone was crazy enough to try reverse firing JATO on touchdown :)

    The Global XRS only requires 2,600' to land all day long!!!

    N725LB is Mr. Louis Moore Bacon - CEO/founder Moore Capital Management
    based at Teterboro.

    Taos Regional Airport video showed N725JB landing runway '22'.

    You should see them land at Dowsview during flight testing - the aircraft have little fuel on board, no interior or paint - they stop on a dime!!!

    Yep, if I remember correctly they went off too early?

    Wasn't it a 727 that landed in Troutdale a couple decades back and had to be stripped down to get back out?

    Landing isn't usually the problem, it's taking back off that causes some problems.

    Shortest field I have been into with the C-130 was around 2600 feet which took some concentration. Wouldn't want to have to take back off out of anything shorter.

    That was a DC-8 that landed at Troutdale. No problem for a 727.

    I think the design goal was to land and take off from a 350 foot soccer stadium in Tehran.

    My favorite wrong landing story was the 121 guy who landed at the wrong airport (can't remember where it was), realized his error, told the passengers he needed to "reposition to get closer to the terminal" and took off, landing at the correct airport.

    The FAA nailed him for landing at the wrong airport, departing without a dispatch release, and failing to do a runway analysis.

    Back in about 1970, an Eastern 727 gave an exhibition of a short-field landing at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport as part of a demo given in conjunction with the air races going on at Executive that weekend (which featured all of the current classes of racing except the Unlimiteds). And that came after a low pass at about 300 knots! I wish I knew just how much of the field that he actually used on landing.

    Having landed a Learjet at Meigs Field back in the day, I have to say the 727 landing there is pretty impressive!

    Of course, the 727 was probably a better short field aircraft than the Lear...

    I saw Lew Wallick land the company's 727 at Renton from the south and over the blast fence . He had it stopped in something like 1800 feet. It looked like a balloon coming down, nose up everything dirty and roaring full blast. It made a firm contact with the ground but made it quite a demonstration. There is a story that he wanted to land it on an aircraft carrier and probably would have if he had obtained permission.

    Great find on Youtube. I have heard stories about the 727 landing in Meigs but I never thought I would get to see it. It was exactly as described. Too bad Meigs Field is a relic now also.
