Jeff....great comparison shot. The Corvette wheels/tires are nearly as tall at the Countach front fenders!

  3. Wow, that is one big difference in size.

For comparison, I'd love to see a C3 or C4 Vette in that pic as well

The blue S1 you had sure would have looked amazing next to it...next time:)
I remember that evening ride like it was yesterday....the "open" exhaust was pure music.

Brian, exactly right, when the Countach is by itself in the garage, it looks like a big car. Very wide and is quite long. The width of the top of the front fenders side to side is/looks very wide.
But, damn it, park any other car next to it.........car goes limp.

Did any Euro DD cars ever come from the factory wearing the rear US bumper? I have a Countach book that shows a DD car with a rear US bumper....the picture looks like it was taken at the factory. It is my understanding though that none of the true Euro DD's had US rear bumpers. The first picture is of a European plate DD with a US rear bumper. The first and last pic appear to have been taken in Europe. The first and last pictures also show the single rear Euro fog light...
Can anyone shed some light on this for me....

the first pic is mine, took it at Padova show 3 or so years ago, to show the US rear on an italian carbed QV

i had seen some DDs in Italy with the rear US lights surround...
as Raymond said it was also common to arabian cars and, as many know, while ordering a countach then you can ask more or less anything you wanted
so, regular euro cars had not this rear, but i am pretty much sure few euro cars came like that from factory or dealers

Several new DD QV's were delivered new to Australia with USA bumpers front and rear but in RHD form!

These were imported by Paul Halstead when he ran the "Toy Shop" in Sydney in the late 1980's/early 1990's and was the Lambo importer for Oz.......red was the most popular colour and the cars received widespread motoring media attention........I still have the centrefold poster from Australian "Motor" in pristine condition......L.O.L!

    Thanks for the info.
Not quite sure why a euro customer would want this bumper....must have been "cool" to simply have a different look at the time.

Exactly, my 2 cents aswell. I remember that here in Sweden it was very cool to have US lights on your Volvo back in the late 70th. So if you want to have a different CT, why dont make it uglyer ;-)

  21. The 89 became the ultimate expression of the time. I remember when everyone wanted things tarted up. Boxed rockers on everything, gold wheels (remember all of those BBS rims?), etc. Now as time has passed, we all want them as close to the purest form there was. Other casualties, shag carpet, green appliances. On the extreme of pure, look at the Corvette guys, horrible. Wrong belt, hose clamp, wrong filter, wrong shade of chassis black. How about some parachute pants!

    Brian:

Its all about understanding what happened at Sant Agata in the period.

Generally speaking, the USA, Canada and Middle Eastern cars got the rear panels. But, there were cars slated for delivery to these countries, that got diverted due to canceled orders (or other forms of automotive skulduggery) to other Eu countries. Case in point this Pearl QV that went to a Bologna-based gentleman, delivered to him by Emilianauto SpA. Look at the front wheel arch and the lower spoiler. This was clearly a USA build car, complete with side-markers, with side-skirts added (by Emilianauto). All kinds of things happened, so its hard t have any hard-and-fast rules with Countachs.

On the other hand, here is a European spec QV that was actually brought into the USA somehow (don't ask me!) and it is a completely European trim car, not even any side-markers, running with Florida plates!

I cant imagine why anyone nowadays (given that the DOT mandate period has expired) would want to have a Countach QV in any other trim than Eu, but, I suppose beauty (or a lack thereof) is in the eye of the beholder.

This is the Bertone SpA car.

QVs sit a little high for my liking, but again, different strokes for different folks.
