Suze and I took three days off this week and went for a drive to check out some roads that we have wanted to drive for a long time up around the High Country region.

    Here's where we went:

    http://tiny.cc/tqtog

The road from Mitta Mitta to Anglers Rest has a few looong stretches of dirt so that won't do, but the entire loop from the Blue Duck Inn (1860's Pub) at Anglers Rest over the top to Falls Creek, down the other side to Mt. Beauty and then back along the Harrietville / Hotham Heights Road just has to be driven to be believed.

I reckon it's every bit as good as the Oxly Hwy, but the views are simply outstanding. A few years ago I drove over the mountains from Italy into France and Switzerland, and today was reminicent of that drive, coming over the top of the mountains and decending through the ski villages with all of the tracked vehicles laying dormant waiting for the icy breath to hit again.

I took some images of the roads and views that I'll post up tomorrow, but seriously, we need to do this circuit some time when the weather is nice. Maybe base out of Beechworth and do the loop in a day drive if we have the energy.

    r u kidding ??!!

that is a legitimate Ferrari bottoming question and I know Rob H has so many cars he probably took one of those boats (Testas) and I wanted to know if he banged the car around.

The Oxley Hwy had the QV banging the bottom many times with Speedy and I in it so I like to know if the roads are QV friendly before you head there

As I was scoping out the roads for a future Ferrari drive, I took one of the Soarers. The hydraulic suspension supercharged one.

It's lower in the guts than either the Testa or the Pantera so it was a good test mule. And besides, it doesn't stall when it see's a dirt road like the Fez does!

Pap, this full loop was 1300 kms.

The stretch that we need to do as shown above is much less. About 380kms round trip, but close to 6 hours by Google pace as it's AMAZINGLY winding roads.

Pictures 2 and 4 are taken of the Falls Creek to Anglers Rest section of the road which was just completed at end of 2009. It was seriously amazing. It's a course bitumen with white local quartz topping. Not slippery at all as testified by a couple of bikers that stayed at the Blue Duck Inn (pictured) in Anglers Rest.

The last picture was the awesome stretch of road called the Alpine Highway as it suges up to the summit of Hotham. As you get to the top of that picture, the road hooks hard right and then drops you down into the ski village of Hotham Heights.

Nothing in 1300 'spirited' kilometers. And a bloody good thing too as the walk home would have been long, and I definately would have been walking!

I had a bit of fun with two blokes on M109R bikes.

Huge bikes, but seriously quick. They reckon they are 2.9 / 100 kmph, but they don't go round corners as hard as an Active blown Soarer.

Good to hear. If you get done in a Ferrari, the seizure would probably make the 6 o'clock news :(

I,m gunna have to house one of my cars down there....................you blokes have some great roads/surfaces to run on.
Unlike FNQ where you have to rebuild your suspension after going to the shop for milk.
