Anyone have experience with Lyle Tanner's Dino 246 repro tool kit? It goes for $465 and includes tool bag and tools. I only have the original jack for my 71 Euro GT and would like to supplement it with a reasonably accurate reproduction toolkit without spending a crazy amount of money. I should note that I plan to exhibit my car, so I don't want something that will judge just as bad as no toolkit at all.

If Tanner's repro toolkit is poor quality, are there others that rate highly w/o the expense of an original?

Unless someone has come up with a new style repro toolkit since last time I looked, it isn't like a real Dino toolkit at all I don't think the "Lyle" toolkit is different, but would need to see pics of what he is selling to say for certain.

No disrepect to Lyle, but that is the type I was talking about.

    I wouldn't pay $100 for that.

The bag isn't right for a later Dino and way wrong for YOUR Dino. The tools are all wrong to.

That looks almost nothing like any Dino toolkit. Go to Sears and get better tools than those for cheaper.

Just my opinion, but I don't think a repro tool kit would add any value to one of our cars. I think original or nothing.

I agree, Tom. Something that literally screams poor replica is worse than no kit at all.

HMB-Dino, perhaps you could find the correct empty tool pouch to start with, and then look for individual, more or less correct tools to fill it with. Even if one or two of the tools are not of exactly of the right brand, it will still look much more acceptable than one of those fake kits. My opinion only.

Another way to phrase the same; if you're a buyer of a Dino, would the repro increase the price you would pay for the car?

Agreed: On the basis of above re originals etc, would someone please post an image(s) showing clearly the original tools laid out: ideally 1971 E series. Thanks.
    Paul.

I (#02732) have the brown type jack bag with jack and brace, and the chock.

What was the spread of chassis numbers that used the brown material for jack bags and tool rolls ? I have asked my friendly local trimmer to try and source material but wonder how big the market might be if I got him to go into production.

Were the brown type tool rolls all the same ?

Except You will not get platinum award 95+ or greater without books and tools.
    Good repros or originals accepted.

Platinum judged cars adds value to your car
It cost time, energy and money to get to 95 pts or greater.

Your FML ad is a little messy when saying

"This is a platinum car had I had books and tools"
    92+4=96

    This doesn't fly when selling.

Please do not echo famous last words
" I will NEVER sell my dino, so it doesn't matter", usually only kidding yourself.
Economies changes, health changes, situations change, life changes.
    Just a realist

Understood Tom. Let my rephrase my opinion: I don't think a reproduction tool kit would add value to a Dino that is not being shown/judged or is a 'driver'.

My 71 Euro M-Series (01712) jack bag is also brown, but I don't know if it's original to the car or from another Dino. It clearly is not a repro as it and the jack are well `aged'. But I suspect previous long-time (20yr) owners probably had at least another Dino besides mine during their lengthy ownership.

So this repro toolkit appears to be a mirror image of what's correct (ie, snaps not on left side)...good enough for judging, or back to square one?

What is the going rate for just the tool kit, an original in early brown pebble grain just like shown above (but mine has the screwdrivers)?
I have an extra tool kit I bought from Sheehan in 1993

An E series in 1971, did that exist,?
Gotta ask because I thought not but could be wrong ...

I believe those tools are for later cars, but they do look nice.
