Remember GFRT is Geriatirc Ferrari Racing Team. Wonky fuel flow = "fuel dribles out of injectors like an old man with enlarged prostate"
Or a FlowMax commercial for those sporting a 6 pack of kidney stones... Hurts even talking about it. This will be the new 'Where's Waldo' term of FChat, bet on it.
The hoists are tied up so I cant look at the IMSA engine for a bit. When I put that pulley on the rotary table on the mill I seem to remember the tooth ring was not perfectly dead centered on the inner hub and you might be able to see the large gap even after I machined it. The large gap is centered in the window of the pickup 95 to 100 degrees before TDC. I measure 95 with the degree wheel but have 100 noted in my manual from calculating it years ago, likely for the same reasons as you. If you can still see the gap you should be able to calculate which position tooth I left intact, I was just copying the Sprint engine pulley when I did that one. For some reason I remember 35 or 42 degrees. If the damn weather ever moves through I will open the doors and fire the sprint engine and see if I can get some numbers out of the EFI ECU. I need to run a full heat cycle on that engine before it comes out regardless.
I do love to make things shiny! Here is the 358 in all her glory. Dyno day is coming up this week for the pre-track tune. Then we will see what the bi.tch is made of. Cosmetic projects remaining: 1. Paint touch ups around the car. 2. Zymol wax. 3. Red racing tape application in high impact areas. 4. Rubber and tire detailing. 5. Plexi window polishing. That looks outstanding! I really hope there will be some video clips of it's first forays onto the track. All the best, Andrew.
Dyno day on Friday at Haddad Motorsports. Gonna "tune it up". As soon as that's done, it'll be time to schedule its' first track day in 5 years or so. Hopefully that'll be in time to not show for the first GFRT event soon to be cancelled at Willow Springs!
I have it on good authority that GFRT rules require the presence of medical personnel with specialty in gerontology, and as of this time, there is no such person available. Truly unfortunate, as the event was scheduled for a full field and all eligible drivers have forwarded their entry fees, made hotel reservations, etc.
I can bring the aspirin. Hey, we can get Jeff to bring the defib. FYI, I tried to contact the marketing people for Motec and Penske to get some decals, but am having not success. Anyone got ideas?
Depends, Geritol and Cialis? Hit them up for some sponsorships? I have a buddy that works for Eli Lilly, so maybe we have an 'in' on the Cialis deal. Worst case, we'll have some help when we leave the track and head for the chicken ranch.
Dyno day went great. 2 hours on the dyno and the motor produced more horsepower than I'm allowed to state on this site. All I can say is that the GFRT guys better practice their blocking maneuvers. The 358 will get us to the port-a-potty ahead otherwise!
Oh, I forgot, did you keep the stock redline setting or change it at Haddads? We need to get some specs on this. Dave can you shed some light? This was an enduro motor with a pretty high drive ratio, so we expected that the engine has a higher operating band than stock, but we set it there conservatively. I would expect that we have 500 rpm at least to play with.
