I as well as many others where witness to this exact issue in December, 2007 during a Toy's for Tot's run in South Florida where a participant's car started on fire in the parking lot following the run.

He was putting the top up at the time so the compartment door was already extended making it impossible to open the engine compartment door which delayed getting an extinguisher in the area of the fire to put it out.

Poor guy just stood there watching his brand new 430 burn. They did get the fire out but the engine compartment was a complete mess from the soda powder. I never did find out what the extent of the damage was but I can only assume he was one of the people that at least had something to say to both the Fed's and the factory which could have attributed to this recall.

So...The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) saw this problem and as a result ferrari will recall 1,950 f430 spiders...But the cars from europe and other places??? Doesn't have the same problems?Or just that there is no NHSTA to make a warning?

Sorry to bring an old thread back, but found it while looking for non-existent threads on 430 roof issues (my 'open roof' light is staying on with top open, and now with it closed too. Top is operating fine otherwise, so I suspect limit switch adjustment at both ends. Should be something simple, but need to know where they are... in case anybody knows).

Anyway, reason to bring this thread back from the dead is to make newer owners aware of this recall. And most importantly, to ask the experts WHERE the insulation is to make sure it was done in our cars. Thanks gang.

Before people freak out -- this thread is over two years old.

Indeed, but read my question: WHERE IS THE INSULATION TO MAKE SURE IT'S DONE ON USED CARS???? Thanks for b*tching anyway :). Rather ask and make sure it's done than potentially getting the car burned to the ground. Hope you understand.

    JC,

What I would recommend would be to find the campaign number and check your service records. I'm sure that the previous owner could provide them for you. Seems from all your posts you are finding out why you got such a screaming deal on the car.

Btw I don't think bdelp was b****ing, just trying to prevent mass hysteria from the title of the thread.

I'm no expert, but I do think the global ferrari service system (available to all dealers) keeps track of which campaigns are run (at least that is what a service tech told me and showed me on a print out this week).

So, if the prior owner doesn't know, a dealer should be able to tell you if the system thinks it was done...of course, I would still physically inspect to see if whatever the fix was is actually done (I had an issue with an ECU upgrade campaign on a car this week that the system said was "done" but the tech was certain was "not done".)

Exactly. I have all service history, and there're some campaigns in there, but no description. And based on my personal experience, I wouldn't take dealer's word for it anyway. Will try searching for the TSB/recall so I can see what the fix was, and check it. Thanks.

I'm not b*tching at you. Take a break. I'm warning other members here who will read this and start a total panic thread about a new recall that doesn't exist.

You could have started a new thread asking your question before 600 people start to freak out over the title.

I'm just trying to stop unnecessary anxiety that you caused by bringing up a two year old thread needlessly.

I bought my F430 spider from another country, wasn't sure if this was done or not..
I called up my local Ferrari dealer, gave them VIN number, they checked with the factory when they told them it was already fixed.

You're wrong. Car is in super shape for the mileage, and has every option. The battery issue wasn't the seller's fault; it happened during transit... and turns out car comes with a wet cell battery from the factory. The few issues the car has are normal wear and tear, and ALL used cars are subject to that.

If I had started another thread, another 'bdelp' would have jumped at me for not searching and continuing an existing thread :). In fact, that's exactly what happened before, so what the hell should I do next time? Ha ha. Sorry man. And don't worry about intelligent people here 'freaking out'; they'd find out in a second it's an old thread. And it's good information for current and future owners, so they become aware of it. If this can save one car from burning, the 'panic' would be worth it. Take care.

Previous owner relied on dealer for everything; never even checked oil level. I'm going to search for that, but still want to know what the fix was to make sure it's physically there. Thanks.

PS. Getting close to start 'exercising' the ignore feature. Don't understand why people don't skip threads/people they don't like, rather than making negative comments, but to each his own. Enjoy the rest of the weekend gang.
