FERRARI vs. Lamborghini

Maybe this should be in the 599 section as the Aventador will never bear comparison with any of the legendary vehicles in this section !

 

I dont think they really have a direct competitor since the Lamborghini is mid-rear v12 AWD and the 599 is a mid-front engine car. Cars like the Reventon are interesting but not a true competitor for cars like the Enzo so I think there are a couple of places where they don't directly compete.

 

The FF is the successor of the 612 and is not a competitor of the Aventador. The Aventador will be up against the "new" 599.

 

Until the next Enzo Ferrari has nothing that directly competes with the new Lambo.

 

I fail to comprehend how a 1 million+ hypercar like the next Enzo will be an Aventador competitor, rather than a Veyron beater.

As an aside nothing will ever beat a Veyron as an engineering marvel/monster.

The ones the next Enzo will directly compete against will be the Super McLaren and the Prosche 918. That coming battle will be fun. The Super McLaren and the 918 will have race versions. I wonder if the next Enzo will...

 

I still don't see them as direct competitors since the price difference between the next Enzo and the Aventador will be huge!

Why do you say that the Veyron is invincible though? If the next Enzo is based on the FXX (900-1000 HP NA V12, 1000-1100 kg of weight), it will makes mince meat of the fat Veyron...

IMO the next Enzo will have quite a different power plant than the FXX and until the next Enzo exists it's all a guess.

As for the Veyron, as anyone who has driven one knows, there will never be a Monster like that again.

Either way the Veyron won't be a competitor to the next Enzo. The Porsche 918 and Super McLaren will.

 

I suppose not. There is no GT1 class anymore and the 458 will do just fine in GT2. There was also no need for a Enzo racingcar, since the MC12 had that territory pretty much covered.

The FF is in all aspects completely different to the Aventador. If Lamborghini ever decides to bring the Espada back to life (Estoque perhaps), then you'd have something of a comparison on you hands.

Besides, why would Ferrari even want to answer the Aventador? This is a Lamborghini. Childish design, almost no competition genes. And when has Ferrari ever looked at Lamborghini for deciding their direction?

 

True, we will know about the next Enzo when Ferrari will let us know; till then it's all speculation.

If you are referring to the weight of the Veyron, a monster it is and we don't need such heavy hypercars anymore. But for speed and excitement, newer cars should topple it. After all that has always been the goal of super Ferraris, straight to the top of the pile. I hope they don't go green on us now...

 

That is a damn crying shame. Some of the most exciting racing of the late 90's and early-mid 2000's were the big engined GT1 cars; sharing just enough with a real street driven car.

 

The Super McLaren might (though perhaps more sport focused than GT?).

Yeah, both the F50 and the Enzo managed that. The only problem could be that Ferrari may decide to go all green.

 

True of the F40, certainly; but not true of the F50 and the Enzo, as the McLaren F1 was ahead of them in terms of performance. That's not to say that the F50 and Enzo were inferior cars to the F1, because they certainly weren't; but I think Ferrari stopped pursuing records like "top speed" and "quickest to 60" in favor of having a more complete driving experience.

I've heard reports that the new Enzo will be a TT V8, a "spiritual successor" to the F40. Whatever they create, I can't wait

 

I have already posted the R&T test that proves that the Enzo is much quicker than the F1. Here we go again:

Zero to 60 mph: 3.3 seconds.
Quarter-mile run: 11.1 sec. at 133.0 mph.
Unbelievable.
The Enzo has just recorded the best Road & Track acceleration run ever for a road car. Its 0-60-mph run equals the fastest time logged just a month ago by the all-American Saleen S7. And its quarter-mile time and speed pulverize the mighty McLaren F1's numbers of 11.6 sec. traveling at a mere 125 mph past the quarter-mile mark. Wow!

So, the Enzo was unbelievably quick in a straight line, the king of that era actually! In that respect Ferrari never stopped pursuing the records. The F50 was not close to the Enzo but its acceleration was still on par with the F1 (0-100 mph in the 6s area).


As for the next Enzo, who knows? I just hope it's a NA V12!

 

The McLaren F1 R&T used was a US-spec model, which is heavier and less powerful than the standard car.

That Enzo was also US spec with just 650 BHP (instead of the 670 CV of the Euro version) so it was a fair and square comparisson. Not to mention that Autocar was on a British crusade at the time... still is actually.

 

Quit the pissing contest about which is faster. We all know the test cars that are sent in are heavily modified and race specced out the wazoo. Ferrari even requires their techs to be 'on site' to offer the 'test model'.

 

Actually that Enzo was a privately owned car. I don't know about the F1 that R&T tested though.
