Has anyone here ever put straight pipes on their car? Any CS owners? Are there any downsides to it? ( besides the legality :p )

Downsides: loud, you will wake up all of your neighbors if you leave the house early.
    Exhaust smell at times
Check engine light can be on
Pain in the rear come smog time
The Plus side is the pure sound, more than makes up for the negatives!

What muffler do you have on the car? That has a big effect on the pitch, tone, and volume.

One of my old 360's had straight pipes and tubi exhaust. Amazing sound but like previous post there were some negative. I love it loud but the negatives out weighed the positive so would on my other cars I would do aftermarket exhaust or at the very least cap the valves on the exhaust. Even on my Bentley :)

Your neighbors will grow to hate you. It may be too loud for you as well. The drone at constant highway speed may annoy the crap out of you.

Plus you already drive a car that gets a lot of attention, now it is super loud also.

I strongly believe that we should obey the emissions regulations. They have made a huge improvement in the air quality and our environment.

Scud with straight pipes: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wks28Fv6deI[/ame] - what that sounds like a fleet of cars going by, not just one!

I think it sounds fantastic, but for non-track use, I dont' know. You'd drive in a parking garage and set off every single car alarm and really piss a lot of people off who might key your car in response to your show boating. My neighbor already told me he can hear me start my 996tt with catless stage 2 europipe exhaust, fortunately he also said "it sounds fantastic."

There are already Tubi's on the car, would that lend itself to a better or worse pitch with the straight pipes?

Perfect guy to answer this question is DonJuan348. He has a tubi exhaust with straight pipes. And he also has a great sound clip.

All hell breaks loose when you slap on the headers. My 430 screams like she's on fire, which I hope she won't. It's amazing how different she sounds. Had a run with my mate's Scuderia which has the full Capristo setup. Sounds exactly the same, just as loud, just as high pitched. It's deafening, but fun. People will hate you, but I simply love the new driving experience.

Wow, that sounds incredible. I thought the Tubis were loud, but WOW. Are there any negatives BESIDES pissing off your neighbors, smog, and legality? Does it harm the car at all? We have a CS, by the way, but I doubt it makes a difference.

My 360 also has a Tubi Exhaust with Fabspeed Test Pipes, sounds incredible. Funny thing, the mechanic at Ferrari told me I would never get the car inspected without the cats. I just had it inspected and it passed... no questions asked.

I would rather go with Agency Power headers.

Can anyone tell me where a stock 430 with valves removed fit into the noise spectrum from clips above? Valves open is almost like running straight pipes, no? Mine is loud as hell, and doesn't sound too nice outside. My main problem is the drone. Would like to get an exhaust without valves (so far only capristo 'race' makes one, and maybe Tubi), but it'd have to drone less, and be a bit less noisy, which is entirely possible as exhaust is going thru a muffler. Otherwise it'd have to have valves, but don't like the complication, having to use a remote, and it's too quiet with valves closed and too loud with them open. Oh, and hate the 'dual' tone too :). Thx.

straight pipes would be replacing the cats with wide open pipes, regardless if you have a muffler installed. If you think your car is too loud with the valves open, then you don't want to change anything with your existing system, as it only gets louder as you start replacing exhaust parts.

To be honest, an F430 with headers and test pipes and muffler is loud, but not obnoxiously loud. I find it loud, but it's a nice kind of F1 loud and not the same as a gap racer with a 10 inch dia straight pipe. Other than the CEL issue which can easily be resolved by ecu remapping, I'd say go for it. Lighter, louder...what more can one ask for?
