http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/02/report-piech-says-alfa-romeo-sales-could-increase-fourfold-unde/ Ferdinand Piech Supervisory Board Chairman (read in total control of) the VW empire is trying to add Alfa Romeo to his portfolio now... Report: Piech says Alfa Romeo sales could increase fourfold under VW ownership by Chris Shunk (RSS feed) on Mar 2nd 2011 at 1:41PM Alfa Romeo builds some really good-looking rides, but that apparently hasn't translated into profits for Fiat. In a recent interview with Forbes, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne reportedly called the Italian brand a "money loser," and sales of the marque have consistently underwhelmed. But while Fiat has worked hard to rehab Alfa Romeo to no apparent avail, Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech feels his people can do better. Reuters reports that Piech declared at the Geneva Motor Show that VW could raise Alfa sales from about 100,000 units per year to 400,000 or more in a scant five years. The boasting by Piech may seem more than a bit cocky, but that confidence jibes well with VW's bold proclamations that it will become the largest automaker on earth by 2018. So what prompted Piech to announce to the world that VW could sell more Alfas than Fiat? We have no idea, and Marchionne has shown little public interest in selling the brand in the past. VW is obviously interested in buying Italy's sweetheart, though, and the German automaker likely has the cash and can take a liability off Fiat's books. The Aventador is what you get when you put the Reventon and the Gallardo in bed together. This baby is going to be wild! Can't wait to see it in the flesh!
LP700 threads need to be merged. it would make sense why he made that comment. I guess he's still hurt, and taking a swipe and someone. lame.
give it a rest already. NO ONE that like the car, is going to change their mind and not like the design nomatter how much you ***** about it being a Gallardo (or a Firebird).
Those that fall for Audis deceptions, cannot possibly have something resembling a mind. Also, I am doing my victory lap, so can it and let me enjoy my victory lap, and do take a Midol.
There's a show video on the autocar website. It's got a short section on the AVENTADOR. God it looks good!
Yes, in the tail lights, it looks to be a total rip off of the chevy camaro redesign...that's where I think it looks like a 'firebird' (aka camaro)...tail lights Additionally, how about putting that side-by-side with a Gallardo, for twice the price you probably want something a little more varied on the design, after all, the Gallardo has a lot of design differences from the Murcielago
Call it evolutionary rather than revolutionary....doesn't matter to me. This car is absolutely stunning. Most recent sports car designs have required an adjustment period for me to warm up to their styling. Not this one...Lamborghini absolutely hit it out of the park. It almost makes a Murcie look tame. By the accounts of the journos who test drove the prototypes, it will be an absolute monster on road or track as well....
+1 I'm very intrigued by it's roof too according to a colour chart previously posted VERDE ITHACA won't be available for the Aventador . Sure will be missed ...
I'm not impressed with the design. It looks so "Recycled" and rushed compared with previous years such as the Diablo and countach which looked more original and fresh. Even the Murcielago and Gallardo were amazing for their day. This on the other hand is like a watered down Reventon with a little LP670 and Gallardo. I'm not liking this direction that Lamborghini is going with their designs.
Nice pic. My first thoughts are that the Countach looks like a 7/8 scale (maybe 9/10) model next to the Reventon and my eyes for some reason fall on the trunk lines, more specifically how they are both wide at the bottom and narrow at the top.
+1...I think Jerry's training/profession as an artist allows him to pick-up on design details that the avg Joe misses on first glance...Chas is just riding his coattails.
Thanks. Not a fan of the pimped-out black rims when it comes to introducing a new model. Car looks a hell of a lot better without them.
Why have they not gone to a camera and display instead of a rear view mirror? A high mounted (hidden) camera would make for very good rear vision.
But seriously, any car with this kind of performance needs a heads-up display. Last thing you need to do when you're absolutely caning it is to take your eyes off the straight ahead to glance at your instruments.
i agree. dark wheels, black wheels in particular, doesn't allow our eyes to pick up the lowest lines of the car when it meets the road/surface underneath. and to me, that makes the car 'dirty' (hard to distinguish), if you know what i mean?
I saw the car during a preview a couple of months ago. It looks stunning. If you like the LP640, you will go head over heels over this.
