It seems physically impossible to be honest. The power/wt ratio of a ZR1 is definitely comparable and yet we are talking about a 10s difference? Something is wrong with this picture ..

Remember at high speeds, weight does not matter, only hps and aerodynamics. Look at the difference between RS2 and ZR1. Having said that, if you look at the link from AutoSport, the 0-200 time for ZR1 is only 11.5, which seems strangely high too. It should be around mid 10's.

thats true, but 300km/h is still a relatively 'low' high speed, well off 200mph. I don't imagine the drag coeff of the ZR1 is that much worse than the 12C. I'm no mechanical engineer though. Its just all kind of starting to seem too good to be true, like 3D TV.

It's 300 kph = 186.4 mph, not such a large difference. If you look at RS2 vs. Zr1, 0-200 is just 1.5 sec difference and part of it is launch (rear- vs. front-engined), by the time they get to 300, the diff is 7 sec. It's all aero (and gearing).

And by the way, 3D TV works;)

of course it works, but would you wear those uncomfortable glasses (ontop of your existing glasses if you have them like me) for more than 5 mins!?

I do it all the time. I play 3D GT5 from time to time and it works great. Especially on good plasmas w/o any crosstalk.

There is nothing "low" about 300km/h (186mph) as drag increases with the cube of speed. As to how it can be possible you need to use CdA (drag coefficient x frontal area) rather than simply Cd and I suspect the 12C has a smaller frontal area than the ZR1.

In the engineering briefing (on pistonheads) they were actually saying that thanks to the carbon tub they were able to significantly reduce the front area.

Thanks! I'm a bit simple and like my cars that way too... small, light, no gadgets, naturally aspirated, etc... but the more I read about this the more desireable it becomes :)

Now I just need to check that piggy bank :)

Just don't get that pebble stuck between the caliper and the pad on your ccb's. There's a reason guys who track a lot swap to steel on their carbon-brake cars.

I share the affliction to certain extent. I never expected to lust after a turbo-ed car, but here we are.

remember 2 years ago whan Anthony Sheriff said that their Iris system would do things never seen in a car before?
ive just found out what that is,as we know Mclaren have an electonics business supplying telemetry to most other teams, also the most advanced simulator in the world, where jenson and lewis fine tune the chassis before every race!!!
Chris Goodwin has just said,as we collect more data on tracks around the world these will be fine tuned in the simulator, they will then be avalible to be downloaded by the iris,so when you turn up at your favorite track it will optimize the handling for every corner !!!
Cant wait to try eau rouge at spa flatout without killing myself on the first run(in the wet)
how far behind are the worlds automotive industry now!!!!!

fair enough, but keep in mind as some of us are in the process of spec'ing our cars as we speak, information such as this has real implications. I think the IRIS upgrade is several thousand dollars? Don't get me wrong, I have no reason to believe you are making things up. All I'm saying is it would be beneficial to know that the source is real before plunking down that kind of money. Cheers. :)

p.s. an adaptive suspension such as this may lend credence to the 7min ring time rumour.

Sorry to say it, but Ferrari is going to be badly hurt.
And after years where they treat the customers badly, people will be very happy to switch.

Well, if Ferrari treated their customers with respect then Ferrari would not have such a problem. This is why quite a few guys such as myself have given up on Ferrari, and must add that the quality and treatment of service by Bentley is truly outstanding **by any measure**.

Just add the IRIS dude! The sound system will be epic and there is no telling what kind of software updates they will release over time but you can be sure they will be cool. So better be safe than sorry I say. I saved the money on the ceramics upgrade and put half of it in the IRIS, likely get much more utility out of that.

I agree because Bentley is VW Group, and they need to be nice to sell 10 000 euro car.
The time that you need to begue to buy a Ferrari is over. Welcome Mc Laren

Oh, man. This is getting crazier and crazier. One thing, though, optimized handling assumes optimal line. On some tracks, even professionals disagree over the ideal line. Are we gonna get maps in iris with the line on it? I know it's all speculation at this stage, but i am just curious.

I don't know if I would ever have the courage to take eau rouge flat out in anything, and especially in this car. Coming down the straight you are gonna be easily doing 120-140 mph before entering the corner. I was scared in a regular carrera, imagine the fun in this car. Also, given the rumored grip, pouhon would be a ton of fun. I loved that corner. Especially with all the runoff :).
