How are the pits are arranged based on team standings from the previous year. Are the top teams put nearest to the pit entrance or the pit exits?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Top teams are nearer to the pit entrance.

I thought it was actually a situation where they got to choose their location, so while they generally choose to be closest to the entrance, they could theoretically choose any spot. Maybe that was in the past...

The World champion constructors get to choose which pit they want 1st... goes in order of championship points from the prior year.

Depending on the circuit... they could want to be the first or the last... depends on the strategy.

Teams have no say in pit positioning, the only time it has been changed around was when McLaren got mad when they had all their points taken away thus becoming last in the championship. They requested additional space due to sponsors and team size. In general the lower ranked teams get less pit space, however with the higher team count it is getting more even in regards to how much pit space the teams are allocated.

The order is based off the previous years Constructor championship with 1st place always getting pit box 1. (Hence why last year Mercedes had the 1st or last pit box)

So then, are you in agreement that 'pit box one' is nearest the pit entrance?

What do you mean? In the past, the championship winning team tend to favour the first pit box in the pit lane, as during pit stops, there's no need to pass traffic on the way to your pitbox.

No, some tracks have the #1 position nearest the exit, like Montreal, check this video, Mercedes GP had the last pit box last season, i.e closest to the exit. It mainly older tracks that do this.
