Ive never driven it (of course), but I recently read a big article about it in a magazine somewhere and it certainly is and sounds beautiful. :):)

Rated one of the best driving roads in the world too. I cant say if its worth it mate, but if you have the money Id give it a go. :):)

My time will come one day...............when I am 70.:eek:

Check out the Splugen pass and the pass that goes over the San Bernard tunnel. Both great. All the roads around Zernez to Bormio to Nauders and the surrounding areas are wonderful.

I did it a couple of years ago. Stelvio is a good road if you like short straight, hairpin, short straight, hairpin etc etc for 10 minutes!

I'd check out San Bernardino, Sustenpass and Route Napoleon before Stelvio though if you are in the area it would be rude not to :)

the reality is lots of traffic, particularly Route Napoleon, and the autobahns now often have speed limits flashing on the unrestricted bits. The pommy mags glamourize these roads but never mention traffic. Perhaps they do all their runs at 5am?

Italy is chock full of great roads, but its hit and miss between having a great drive or being stuck behind 3 kms of Polish trucks.

Go to Nevada, great roads, no cameras, no traffic.

We should do a GG to Vegas one year, get onto it Horsey!

Stop on ,i was going to take the Jag on the Healey world rally in Sweden before I got cancer.
Ferry from Germany,Denmark to Sweden then back to the UK and then a week in France or Italy,Amanda laughed and said the car would be destroyed or stolen and how do you get into the older towns.
Best driving i've ever done is Tucson to the Grand Cannon ,most of the way I sat 160ks,trouble with Europe its full of middle class Americans complaining.

That is fun. Although the problem I experienced was that trucks are limited to 80kph so you have to be very careful when approaching a line of trucks when you are doing 200kph plus.

Not done the Stelvio but did the Brenner pass from Verona to Innsbruck about 25 years ago - in a little screaming Fiat. Did it as it was a favourite of the testers in those days - Great drive, brillant scenery, particularly the bridge that hangs out over the valley just before Innsbruck. I beleive it has a lot more traffic now which is a pity!!

S and I did the Simplon pass from Italia to Switz. on a week day - very little traffic, lovely sweeping road (NOT a motorway) fabulous views especially if you're not accustomed to Alpine scenery. Definately more enjoyable (not to mention cheaper - Montblanc tunnel was around E35 (more than $50) one way) than the long tunnels if you have the time.
