Is ferrari second to lamborghini

Im biased towards Ferrari but I don't think that a 30lb Nav unit and carpets would make it much slower. Lambo has the superleggera as a real comp for the Scud. Different strokes for different folks and there IS a market for everything. Ferrari is always #1 in my book!


Theres also too much audi influence in modern day lambos, which is not a bad thing, but when the same A/C controls are in a gallardo and and A3 i start to shake my head a bit.

Current 458 is a technological marvel in suspension/steering/etc.

That said the latest Lambo chasis is amazing, so the 599 replacement will be a amazingifthe respond to it....

 

Well I wouldnt say either company is inferior to another. You have to keep in mind that the lp560 was built after the scuderia, and until it was built the scuderia outperformed many of the existing Lamborghini models. And yes the scuderia was purposely meant to be a stripped down track version and that is why it lacked some of the amendities that the lp560 had.

Right now Lamborghini is sort of in that similar situation you stated above with the lp570 . The superleggera you see has almost identical performance numbers to the 458 but it is less technologically equipped. Doesn't mean lamborghini is any less better than Ferrari however.

Believe it or not, the folks in Maranello pay very little attention to Lamborghini. They know they are there, but they also know they serve a different market and are actually helpful to the high-line market in general.

If you think the only thing to these cars are the paper stats then you will be constantly changing who is on top. With each year that passes and each new model that comes out they are on paper better, that's leaving a whole lot out of the equation if you ask me

Yes, you're right. There is enough market segregation to keep everyone happy. In a way they add credibility to each other purely by existence. Like two bulls courting for one cow, her choice is which bull to mate with, not whether to mate at all.

You have that right....I miss my old 512....but something newer would be nice, at least lamborghini is coming out with a new 12 the LP700-4 and havent stopped making them!

 

Both Ferrari and Lamborghini make cars whose performance capabilities are beyond 99% of their owners. So that metric is meaningless.

If you want to use the popularity metric Ferrari wins by the proverbial mile. Compare their sales.

If you want to use the status metric that is purely subjective.

And how many REAL racing titles/championships does Lamborghini have??

Maybe they do have some, but I am not aware of any at all.

To me, performance is not the entire package of if or not A car company is better than another. Ferrari and Lamborghini make cars with similar performance numbers. So you can never really set in stone who is better by the paper stats. If you take it by a historical point of view, you can see that ferrari is better by alot. Lamborghini didnt race in f1 (I think), it did not have 7 lemans 24 hour wins. So if you look at it that way, Ferrari is better, by racing and history. In my opinion I think ferrari is better. Plus it's performance in most of it's vehicles are better than it's competitors (Ferrari 458 Italia will compete with the gallardo lp5604, 599 with murcielago, Enzo or f70 Enzo replacement competes with the aventador, although the aventador will compete with the 2013 599). Sometimes it can depend on what YOU prefer, by looks usually.
But this war will going for literally forever, so a company may be leading, but I don't think there will be a winner. Ferrari and Lamborghini come out with a new model every year. But Ferrari is better by alot by me.

 

No. Ferrari is second to no one at this point in time. Lamborghini is a long way from being their closest competition, not until they can at least leapfrog over companies like Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, McLaren and Audi.

Both Ferrari and Lamborghini have a long history of manufacturing vehicles.

It's just that Ferrari's history involves a bit more racing.

I think that is a moot point because Lamborghini does not have a race team. Could they win some, if they did race? Maybe. Probably. But in terms of racing being a part of their heritage, Lambo just does not compete.

I have always had the perception that Ferrari outranks Lambo in terms of reliability.

In terms of all the subjective measures - speed, handling, comfort, aesthetics - it all just comes down to which car is right for any particular individual. Get the car that YOU like.

As heretical as it might sound, there are plenty of Lambos that impress me. When it comes down to which I would purchase, I personally lean heavily toward Ferrari - for reasons of aesthetics, history, offering what is important to me in terms of all the subjective measures, and the fact that one of the world's greatest Ferrari mechanics (Dave Helms) has a shop close by.

But I think that there is no objective measure placing one above the other.

I think Ferrari obviously was #1 for a long time. I think as time progressed Lambo became a credible challenger and -it could be credibly argued- took the lead for a while.

However.

In the last (oh I dunno) 8 years I think Ferrari really has opened up a large lead in terms of which is 'state of the art.' (A more accurate term than 'better')

Having said that, I've been liking Lambos of late. The styling just appeals to the 10 year old boy in me. As I often say (and is said above) 99% of the owners of these cars can't drive them to the max anyway. Heck, 95% probably could not drive a Mitsu Evo to the max...

So if you're no longer buying performance, buy something for the 10 year old kid inside. Or that's my thinking this week.

 

Not to insult anyone, but relative to Ferrari, the modern Lamborghinis feel like a Nissan GT-R with Yugo build quality.

Interiors....bleh. Lambos are heavy, Ferraris are far superior on the track (which translates to the street), Lambos just feel cheap, soulless, and piggish compared to Ferraris. Sure, the published numbers are close, but drive a F430 and a Murcielago back to back....not new ones, but ones that have been broken in.....Ferrari builds a better car overall, hands down.
