Its something like the nickname of Clarkson's *** at public school

(translated : boot cleaner at expensive private school)

We did the series Extreme Machines and then we started to think about reviving Top Gear in a new format, with a track, special guests and the Stig — new boys at Repton (Private school where Clarkson ad Wilman met) were always called Stig — and we thrashed it out over a couple of years."

 

Huh. I would have rather not known...

Takes away from the mystique.

 

Some say .... It's just the Brits' way of complicating google searches for "Security Technical Implementation Guides".

 

And the reason they called the kids at school stig is because of Stig Of The Dump. When I was at school the scruffy kids would get called stig, among other things.

Which begs the question: why don't the English speak English?

 

England and American.....separated by a common language.....

I was wondering the same thing a few weeks ago....found this on Wiki.

It's a very complex story, there have apparently been three main stigs, with several guest stigs, including Schumacher. The stig at any one given time is usally an ex-racer with pro-level skills.

 

Just watched the first episode of Top Gear's 2009 season.

The Stig drove the FXX and set a track record...almost 7 seconds faster than the previous record.

When the Stig took his helmet off it was Schumi.

 

I just watched this today. It's now stream-able on Netflix, for subscribers.

 

Mystery debunked - the Stig certainly is not, and never was, Schumacher. For certain occasions, other drivers have filled in for the current Stig - in the case of the FXX, neither Ferrari nor Schumacher would let anyone else drive the car, so they had Schumacher wear the white suit and helmet, and then had some fun later. The first clue would have been how badly they had Schumacher pretend to drive when he drove the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment.

The original, Black Stig was Perry McCarthy; Stig #2, White Stig, was Ben Collins; the new White Stig, #3, is unknown.

 

One must ask: why did you not reveal this before now??? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

 

Stigs were never fully-human. All until recently have been human/mammalian hybrids.
Those who claimed to be The Stig in the past are still alive, when, it is obvious that they had already died. The Schumacher episode was a stunt.

Also, the word, Stig, is a German euphemism with little history behind it. It has been proposed that the word was related to 'Stygian' which corresponds to the underworld of Hades and the river Styx. The caveman idea proposed seems logical.

 

Some say his cam belts must be changed every 3 years, and that if he gets too hot, the adhesive holding his shoes on can ignite... all we know is... He's the Stig's Italian Cousin!

 

Every episode of Top Gear is a stunt.
