Cayman costs more. Same chassis? Is it looks? Drives differently? I like riding outside when the weather permits. Perhaps you park your Cayman outside and do not want to put a cover on it? Your thoughts.
+1 Currently, the Boxster, Cayman & 997 are the same from the driver's seat forward. To differentiate, I believe Porsche gives the Cayman a wee bit more ponies, but not much. Now if Porsche would give the Cayman another 100 ponies... Dale
I with you Dave. I would love a Cayman but would never ever ever buy a Boxster - purely because the latter is a convertible. While I tentatively borrow convertibles from my parents, I would never buy one of my own - I just don't feel secure in them. All the best, Andrew.
Topless every time. On those perfect days 20% of the year, nothing can beat cruising with the top down.
I love to tan and drive, feel the wind where there used to be hair, hear the sports exhaust, smell the flora and the fauna and it just SEEMS FASTER. To me the Boxster is the modern day 550 Spyder with 310 bhp instead of 110 bhp. And many luxury items I wish my 360 Spider had like remote trunk lock, auto dimming mirrors and tire pressure measurement. I believe the Cayman has more storeage space. How much?
Phil, We'll have to get together to compare the storage space but here is an example. About 1.5 years ago, I took the Cayman to CA for a ten day business/pleasure trip taking in Fastlane Race School at Willow Springs on the way home. Here's what I packed: 1. Case of bottled beer 2. ten days of clothing 3. business stuff including a backpack, computer, books, etc. 4. small cooler 5. helmet 6. driving suit and shoes. I put it all in and there was plenty of room left. My wife could have come with her crap too. It's truly amazing for such a little car. Dave
For a daily driver, I like a metal roof so I can park it at the airport, take it to the car wash, etc. For a sports/toy car, roadster is mandatory -- open air experience, better sound, lower center of gravity. I don't understand why the Cayman costs more, but I would guess it's not helping sales.
Just a guess based on the few months I had a Cayman last year, but I'd say there's 2x as much space in the rear - obviously the same up front. Whether all of the extra area in the rear is usable is another question. We took the Boxster Spyder grocery shopping today and probably fit 20 bags in it with plenty of room to spare. Climate permitting, you've got to go with the convertible...non-electric ragtop if you're so inclined
