Another thread that was just a simple car exchange among disciplines , became a "holier than thou" condemnation pretty much against anyone that isn't a F1 driver is pretty much no better than the local guys running a bomber at local dirt track's and how no way NASCAR driver's are worthy of anything more than racing in front of redneck's.

So , considering those thought's I ask 1 simple question . What series has been a feeder system for driver's leaving for another in larger number's ?

I believe there are 3 or 4 that were F1 that are in various level's in NASCAR , right down to the entry level truck series , yet ZERO NASCAR driver's from any level have gone F1 ......

Please bring the snobbery on !!! If nothing else perhaps LeMons or Chumpcar can be the feeder series for F1 , in preperation for a NASCAR ride!!!!

Nascar is where the money's at, big sponsors=big money that's why you see F1 drivers moving to nascar sometimes and why nascar drivers don't move over to F1. Why change jobs when you get paid the big bucks driving ovals?? Very few F1 drivers even get paid, most pay for their seat in the hopes that a team like Ferrari would pick them up eventually, but there has always been more asses then seats, especially in F1.

That being said, the style in driving you need for either spectrum of the sport are both different, as well as the engineering. However I will go as far to say that the LEVEL of engineering in both is about the same.

:D Why is the WRC not mentioned? Now that's a series ;)

There was an interesting article in R&T a few months back talking about the strengths of the drivers from different series. It was really an interesting read, I don't think comparing different racing series is really snobbery, it's just one of those cool "what if" unknowns. Of course it can turn into snobbery very quickly, on any side.

I think what we all need is a more indepth IROC, I always felt it could be done way better than just a small in door special stage.

I don't think that any series has more technology and sophistication as F1.

As to the drivers being the best in the world... that's a matter of opinion. I do think rally drivers have to be the best and probably don't get as much credit as they deserve.

The one thing that shocks me about racing at Indy is just how dangerous it is. To be going 220 MPH running three wide in open wheel cars straight at a brick wall and then make an immediate left turn must take some rather big balls. It may not be technically as great as F1 but the daring of the drivers is something you have to admire.

There's something to be said in every form of racing. But, for sure, F1 has the highest tech cars of any and that's one of the reasons it's so interesting -- and at times snobbish.

    EXCELLENT COMMENTARY!!!
No matter what Shumacher says about Indy being "boring and not much a challenge" he concept of being over or about 200 mph all day other than cautions or pit stops is not easy! Just go do a 35 lap race at a short track , would suprise many !
ALL racing is great ! Heck I have a 2 1/2 year old and would be thrilled to watch him ride a skateboard down a hill against a nieghborhood kid .... IF we had a hill in Florida !

I just started this thread to point out the "elitist closed thought's many posted on that other thread" and wanted to poke fun at it ! Geez whom ever KNEW F1 was going to be the next training ground for the Camping world truck series !!! LOL!!! Hoist a Tea , brew or nice red wine !

Schumacher commented on NASCAR, not Indy.

Its only Americans who ever talk about "snobbery" surrounding F1. Around the rest of the world its simply viewed as the pinnacle of Auto Racing, in the same same way that Moto GP is pinnacle of Bike Racing.
It seem's a great many American racing fans have serious chips on there shoulders when it comes to F1, which i guess is born out of the fact that no American series operates even remotely close to the level of F1 when to comes to performance, technology or global television audiences.

F1 has the fastest cars around a road track and uses the worlds most sophisticated machinery. That's why it is #1 for me.

WRC has my fullest respect but I just don't care about it. On clean Tarmac a F1 would beat a WRC.

As for NASCAR: they are fun to watch and drive

    :)

If you watch like the last 10 laps of the Daytona 500 you get all the action you ever wanted from an entertainment perspective.

As for driving them: They are fun. Not as much as a F1, but interesting (and scary) enough. They're a pain to get in/out though and they're hot as hell. But they are genuine race cars and as such more fun than most things on wheels.

The same could be said for any F1 race; watch the start, take a nap, then wake up for the final 10 laps.

It's the 190 laps before that would send me to sleep!! It's like watching paint dry...

I have never been able to watch a complete NASCAR race on TV without giving up and switching channel.

But I had no problem watching the Indianapolis 500 when I went there!

I refuse to get too involved in this thread as everyone knows what a terror I can be on the subject. I will only give praise both series.

Nascar guys are the best left turners and frequent passers in the business. Nascar is more on the level of your average joe which I believe gives nascar are somewhat more human persona than other-worldly F1 stereotypes.

F1 guys are practically olympic atheletes and are the best driving tactitions of complex racing facilities in machines which are on the brink of what the human body is able to withstand.

Nothing that a few bucks couldn't change:

    http://www.drivepetty.com/experiences/

Starting at $ 500. Or you can do what a friend of mine did: Just buy the real thing and take it to club racing days. You get a really nice one for around 80k.

Building a halfway decent one isn't that bad. I used to build almost exact spec nascar motors for our dirt track racers. The Brodix alum blocks and heads are no doubt the most pricey items (budget $25k+ on the motor), and if one is handy you can find a lot of really good used chassis', axles, 'boxes, and build a car for under $65k. Just takes time

It's really the oval tracks that drive me mad.

NASCAR would be acceptable to watch if it was on normal road courses with left and right turns of various radius, elevations, braking, downshift, etc...

Watching the Australian V8 races is entertaining, but ovals are not. TransAm was OK too. So it's not the cars I don't like, but the type of circuits.

I think NASCAR used to race at places like Watkins Glen, maybe they still do. Well, that was OK, but not ovals, please...

NASCAR is a bit like Kabuki. So stylized that the untrained eye can not appreciate it.

There's an analogy never made before ;)

    Lol

When comparing F1 with NASCAR I always think of the differences between a F-18 and a crop duster. I'm sure a F-18 would not be good at crop dusting.
