Today I noticed something strange in my 360 engine compartment.

I noted a cubical grey fitting-housing located just below and ahead of the inside passenger side tailight (inside the engine bay). it is about 1.5" x 1.5" x 1". On one side there is a metal or plastic tube (looks like a brake line) that runs along the passenger side of the engine. It terminates into a rubber hose that is connected to one end of this grey fitting-housing. The other end has a nipple - looks like a vacumn connection - but nothing is connected to the nipple.

So, what is this thing? Anyone know? Should there be somthing atached to this nipple? It is someplace to hook up a diagnostic tool?

BTW, I have an aftermarket exhaust system.

As always, all help and insights are welcome.

    Thanks

My guess would be the vacuum line for the factory exhaust (your after market exhaust is not using them). Can you touch an open end of the line while the engine is on? If it is the vacuum line then you should feel some suction.

If you can feel the suction then use a plastic cap or a screw to plug the hole. That should be it.

Prob your aftermarket exhaust does not support this feature - that is why it is hanging there? Maybe, you can take some pics so we can make sure it is what we think it is? Others might have some additional ideas?

Which aftermarket exhaust do you have?

The exhaust system is by Remus.

I am not too computer savy, so I do not know how to post a photo. The fitting is directly in front of the back side of the inside tailight on the passenger side. It is a light grey color and about the size of a 1" tall stack of business cards (a little smaller than that).

Don't worry about this. My car has it too. Nothing is supposed to cover the nipple. Solenoid valve- part of the pneumatic actuator system. If it ain't broke....

Thanks Malibu. My car runs great, but when you see something like this, you cannot help but wonder WTF is it.
