What would Ernie do?
Look on the bright side, the MythBusters guys did prove you can polish a turd. I think things are looking up! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiJ9fy1qSFI[/ame]
Attaboy, Ernie!! Now, you better have her fixed up by April 9 for the Stooge event. So many of us have yet had the pleasure of meeting her.
THAT'S WHAT THE F*CK I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When life gives you lemons, make lemonade Once again, THAT'S WHAT THE F*CK I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ernie, I am glad you have come to your senses and will keep it. I have said this before, and I will say it again (it can't be said enough times) - You are an asset to the Brotherhood. Take Steve up on his offer, or get a hold of Dave Helms (he mentioned he had a spare rad). Either way, get that bad boy taken care of and turn it loose!!!!
Thanks again guys. As to what's gonna happen with the radiator? I've found a place that can make a custom aluminum radiator. They said I should bring the old one in and then they can make my new one based on it. I won't be tackling the radiator for a while, as right now I'm in the process of pulling the engine out of the Integra.
Ok dude, now that that little episode is over, let's get on with the job of making that so-called turd, the hottest turd in Ventura County! Back to converting it to a street fighter. Strip down the crap you don't need, add only performance stuff. Now that I have tasted the sweet performance of a true 348 race car, let's use that as a perforamnce/experience goal for your car. We can do it! I think you need these items: * Bigger front brakes. * DOT R tires on 18" wheels. * Strip out the interior. * Fiberglass front and rear bumper covers. * Delete A/C, sound system, insulation and everything else useless. * Roll bar with appropriate retraints. * Light weight racing shell seats. Anything else we need to do to get this b!tch around 2800 lbs?
Ernie- The aluminum radiators do not have the same heat transfer capability as the OEM radiators. Sure you want to do that with half the radiators? Taz Terry Phillips
As Troy said, where would Fchat be without Ernie and his 348? I've been following his posts for 6 years. What a man..... Thanks Ernie for having decided to stay with it.
I'll be doing both radiators. Besides, the plastic tanks used on the oem units are a joke. I'm doing this as a more "permanent" solution. I don't wanna have to fool with plastic tanks ever again.
The love on this site is enough to restore my faith in mankind. Ernie you are my hero. You have inspired me to keep my hobby car (AKA, The money pit) alive when more rational people would have cut their losses short. It is an old car, compounded by European craftsmanship. **** happens. This too shall pass. I'll see you and the 348 on the road... as soon as I get the transmission back into the CRX. Scott
Man y'are Ernie - glad to see you got over the hissy fit and knuckled down! Just go easy on the old girl when you get her back on the road won't you?
wow, just caught this thread....and glad it has a happy ending! (you know, in a cool car guy kind of way). Before seeing your decision I was thinking the same...for what you could sell it for, it's not worth the loss of such a special car that you've been 'raising' for a decade... I've been lucky here, 4+ yrs and no maintenance surprises.....yet.... Just looking forward to warm spring air to DRIVE!
Not just celebration of Big-E triumphing over adversity, with this thread he has officially overthrown the fchat profanity laws. F u c king incredible!
i went through the same thing over last 10 yrs with my race/street car. i turned a street car into a drag car and everytime i added more power the weak link showed up. i almost gave up many times. 1 year we had to pull the moter after every three passes down the 1/4 mile and replace the thrust bearing. We checked and replaced many parts just to have the same thing happen over and over again. then as soon as you fix one problem another one pops up. I wanted to give the car away so many times. Then it all came together and all our hard work payed off. I won the fisrt race of the year and did not eat my thrust bearing. went to the next race and in the semi finals ran my best time ever 7.9 @ 183 mph then in the finals i wrecked it bad. too this day i would give anything to have my car back. Trust me you are almost done. i bought a stock F355 spider after the wreck and after reading your first post i wanted to sell mine. Maybe i will keep it now. i feel your pain but you are way ahead of many owners with repairs at this point. only so many things can go wrong. In the end you will have a car with newer better parts that you love. Now just do not crash it like i did. time heals all keep your head up. mark smokdu
